Title: New vortex
Post by: double_p on March 03, 2020, 04:58:03 PM
Tried out the new vortex tonight on my mastertouch. The Owen's bbq site says both the medium and small work on a 22.5" weber so I got the medium. Bacon came out great but I think I need more charcoal next time. The burgers took forever to get done. Temp on the dome thermometer never got above 400.  Still, it was a great night to grill!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200304/a4c62e28453fd33ad5e399dfc3617008.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200304/d5f9c56cda52c387dab15c06ee21197f.jpg)

That bacon does look great!

Also it makes a big difference on how far along your coal is when you start. You want to start cooking while the coal is still building heat. If you wait until coal is ashed over completely, then the coal will be in decline while your cooking.

Absolutely. As soon as the smoke stops rolling out of the chimney I'll dump it for the cook. Usually the top layer in the chimney hasn't started to light yet and the heat is super intense.

Flip it upside down and it makes a steak sear machine large enough for two steaks at a time.

Upside down vortex seared steaks http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/index.php?topic=40534
