Title: Good place to buy a box for a Jumbo Joe
Post by: PotsieWeber on August 10, 2019, 06:23:06 PM
I've got a Jumbo Joe I bought for someone on here & should have packed it up & shipped it already.

I've got it apart, but having a bit of a problem finding a box that is big enough, but not too big.  Ideally, something that is 20 x 20 x whatever (I can cut it down) would be perfect.  Anyone know where I can pick up a box for a Jumbo Joe that isn't going to cause a fellow WKC member an arm & a leg (either for the box or for the extra shipping cost if I go with a larger than necessary box)?  He's probably chomping at the bit because this one completes a particular grouping he has.

Did you try u-haul? Idk of they have a 20x20. But they did have a lot of sizes of boxes.

Maybe try a liquor store or grocery store, ask if they have something?

Dumpster dive the cardboard recycling place?

Another option would be to get a larger box, cut and re-glue the seam. Idk just brainstorming

FedEx has really good quality double layer corrugated boxes. They cost a couple of bucks but resist damage quite well.

I know for sure Staples carries a heavy duty 20x20x24 box.  Use  a foam noodle around the rim to get a snug fit.

A Hot Glue gun is your best friend when cutting and downsizing a box.
Don't be cheap on the amount of glue sticks and that box will never come apart.
Just my 2 cents

I have done that before, but was trying to avoid getting a larger one & having to tear it apart & fashion new "corners".  If I could find a couple of 20 x 20's that were not tall enough, I'd just double stack them & use the glue gun on them.  Was hoping someone would chime in with where they got one.  I'm going to check Staples, but I didn't see it being indicated in stock anywhere locally, just figure I'll stop at one to be sure.

Looks like FEDEX has a 20 x 20 x 12.  If I can't find something better, I might buy 2 & hot glue them together.

Declare a value and purchase insurance that's your best bet. Let the buyer pay for box, glue gun, glue sticks, packing material and accessories.

Depending on how far it's going and who you decide to be the carrier it may be dragged, slid, flipped over and dropped across a half dozen docks.
