Title: Rare Weber for WKC meet showoff
Post by: Duke on June 11, 2013, 08:47:19 AM
AJ and I have been in touch with Jeff for a kettle that he has been looking for his collection.

Since we can't make it to the Chicago WKC meet maybe one day we can have a meetup of the Cali chapter. In the meantime the West Coast founders of WKC, Duke & HeyJude on behalf of Team Cali would like to present this kettle to the remaining founders before it takes it's permanent place in Jeff's collection. PBE Gummi Bear has been kind enough to transport the kettle to Chicago.

My dad actually found this one. On saturdays he like to go to out of town estate and town garage sales. After seeing my collection and my pictures from the old Weber catalogs he finally scored a very rare one. I was shocked when he dropped his rare find off at my house. I will not be able to share more pictures until after the mee at Jeff's so be patient until then everyone.

Stay tuned folks! ;)

Sorry, but the meet is only a few days away, so be patient. I just wanted everyone to know there is going to be more to look forward to at the meet. I can't post a picture because then it wouldn't be a surprise. Like I said, stay tuned...................

Ok I'll play along, you're not bringing it to Brian so that rules out Happy Cookers. AJs involved but he's not keeping it so it wasn't free. You're not keeping it but we all know that your warehouse couldn't even hold "one more wafer thin" grill or it would explode(unless it was a yellow offset SJ). PBE Gummi Bear is transporting it so it isn't  optimized for paella or his wife would claim it (damn I can't get that paella out of my mind). So that means its going to Jeff's collection. We've all seen Jeff's collection, he's got one of everything, so what could it be , what's the one thing he doesn't have?? It can only be one thing, the one thing he doesn't have....a Black OTS :)

How unfair, I'm being Profiled! I keep and I trade and I sell, all in good time..
For me, its all about the rarity and the hunt..There was some talk about "Punking" Jeff about his aboration for "Black Kettles", but that just seemed boring. We also thought about placing a whole bunch of Craigslist ads on Friday night Saturday,so all the Chicago boys would be pissed off that they couldn't get them, cause they were drignking beer at Jeff's. Now that would be funny!
But once Shaun found this gem, (I have touched it in the flesh, err metal) we just knew it had to go to Chicago for the meet up. It will be as they say, wait for it, wait for ti, "Epic". AJ  8)

Oh, and I peronally could give a crap if Brain doesn't like Happy Cookers.. The story, the history is all Weber related. I tried to get Idahawk to sell me his red one, but he thinks the way I do.
So he's keeping it, damn.
OK, going back to my hammock now and take my meds.

Stupid United gave me minor trouble taking the package. It was right at the limit for weight due to the doublewalled box and packing material BUT it was slightly over the regular accepted linear dimensions of 62" linear inches and I couldn't pass it through this time. It was still cheaper than rush airmail and Amex reimburses me for checked baggage fees so it's all good.

The kettle still needs some work before it reaches it's original glory. I am tending to this week before the meet. It did make it safely so let me know if anyone needs tips for packing a kettle onto checked baggage.

Here's my other package of bbq related stuff going up to the counter. This one made it fee free.

if the blower is what I am thinking of, it was strange.   It was actually a smallish fan but it clipped directly on to one of those 6 volt lantern batteries. leaving the battery exposed.

No, but that's also a Weber product.  ;) Someone pay for my flight to OZ and I'll bring you back a gas conversion, red pedestal gas kettle, or Weber flattop gasser. That would probably be a hell of a lot cheaper than the flight!

Jeff has shown that before. so I don't think that's it unless they made a 26" version!  :o

What I would love to see is a scale model (or even the drawings) of the original '52 that they used for the earliest patent. Back in the day the patent office would sometimes require a model, and often it was scaled down to allow it to be used as a reference without taking up too much room. Now THAT would be cool!

I'll give you guys a hint. Weber has a lot of bbq innovations in the past few decades. We take a lot of them for granted now. But Brian, as a person who likes innovation and prototyping himself, can immediately relate to. And the wkc founders go way back so this kettle is like a culmination of all thier efforts and this site being founded. Obvious this kettle is at least a few decades old at least. A non weber production model or color ( ;)) is not outside of the realm of possibility. We've seen it with the sevilles and maybe another model? I have about 7 drinks in me right now so this is the only reason I'm giving the hint at 2am while still out drinking in chitown. Thank god this phone has autocorrect otherwise this will be incomprehensible. Anyways, I hope I can wake up in time to make it to Jeff's. so good night.

But to turn the gears a bit, Harvest orange anyone? Weber penthouse? Original kettle? Flamethrower? Custom marbled kettle? 18" galley que? Weber flat top? Original kettle? Flamenco? Burnt orange smokey joe with locking lid bale? Chariot Seville frame? Patent pending WSM prototype? Have I mentioned special color yet?  ;D

It must be something freakin special to go cross country and not be posted in trading post or a in the back of the truck pics by duke. I heard Jeff paid Harris level money for this one lolz. Good night.

So many inside jokes. I hope someone here gets it. Only 10 hours to go till WKC annual meet number 1. I'm packing my cameras for sure. But that's another expensive and less tasty hobby for another forum. Good night.
