My old WSM has the ridges on the vent and no little tabs in the holes. Anyone know if this is a Weber vent and if that line on it is a I or L or neither.
I'm calling that a Weber. Go get it.

I don't think it's any stamp. It does look like a Weber bottom vent though.

The knob on the door looks like the first version of the door knob/latch.

He has a WSM and says it is really similar but only has one. Shelf. I can't see the tabs for another shelf. It's not near me so I will see if he takes paypal and we will let the gods decide.
Most of the cheapie ones I've seen had bolt on handles, not welded on like in the picture.
Yea I think it is a Weber, it just really through me when he said he has one and he doesn't think it's a real Weber. We will see, he seems to be working with me.
Looks like a Weber to me as well. Although...that grate in the middle is hinged so not original. From what I know, there was a period from the mid-late 1980's to the early-mid 1990's where they weren't stamped.

The 18 i had was a 2000s model and there was no way a hinged grate would fit on the middle since it was a smaller diameter

Agreed. But closer examination of that hinged grate looks like it's sitting in there at slight angle (not on the straps). Then again...where is the top tab of the strap where the upper grate is supposed to sit?
A normal sized 18 grate will fit fine in the 18" WSM, but will wind up resting on the nuts, that are slightly above the lower grate supports and that attach the strap to the middle section. I know, because I bought one like that.
Did he say he would take PayPal? If not I was about to go grab this one
@Red_5_Wrangler said the guy seemed to be working with him. You might want to message him & see if it fell through or he backed off.

He said no to PayPal and I already asked my local friends for too much so I made peace with letting this one go.
Side note, I am also convinced this is an 18 with the center upside down and one missing grate. He said there is no water pan but I think it's there it's just the old smaller one not like the huge ones. Last person I got one from was using it under the charcoal. I hope it's awesome.
Guess I'm driving to kc tonight then
I guess we will see if he texts back. Maybe he'ss mad cause I didn't want to drive in the storm last night
Got it! He said something about it not having the top grate. I almost didn't say anything but I asked if it was just upside down. He texted back and said I was right, and when I got there he had thrown in another grate and put it together right, so its a good thing I said something.
I also want to add that it is missing the water pan. Youguys are good at evaluating a weber from a picture!
I will get some pics tomorrow
Also, how much is a water pan?
You don't really one, but one option is to go to a thrift store/restaurant supply store and find a stainless bowl that fits in there.

If you don't find something appropriate at a thrift store, if you have an old Brinkman smoker (or find one for dirt cheap), their water pan fits the 18" WSM. Other smokers that looks similar might fit it also.
You could check out one of the new bowls as a spare part at that ereplacementparts place (or whatever it is called) & if they are too high, you might also check on Amazon (or even ereplacements) for a replacement Brinkman one. I thought someone provided a link to it once & they seemed to be about $15 if memory serves.
My friend actually said he has an extra one. The bowl on this thing has some really caked on grime.
