So, I had a little time to kill last week and ran a few of the searches I don't usually bother with (especially in the winter, which up here in the northeast is a relatively dead time for goodies to be posted (great time to pick up a sub-$30 black though). I saw a picture of a grill box. Interesting, I thought. I clicked on it. Wood handles on the picture of the box. Really interesting I thought. There were no pictures of the actual grill, other than the black underside of the lid. How come these things are never red I thought. Then I noticed there as a label still on the box that I could zoom in on.
DAMN! Could it be?
This grill had turned up on the far end of my search and would have been by far the furthest I'd ever traveled to get one. What the heck though-I got to reach out at least. I emailed the seller. Red confirmed. Unused in box.
Shortly thereafter, I got the dreaded, oh, I didn't realize it was a special edition red-I have to up the price. He didn't hit me with the big increase I feared though-I think he must have thought it was a 2018 special edition? I tried to figure out who I could talk to that was in the area or would be, but while I was doing that, seller told me that he'd ship. For less than I'd spend on gas driving there and back. I was looking at spending more than twice as much as I'd ever spent on a grill before but I hemmed and hawed, and decided that I had a little extra cash laying around, I'd never see another one, and I might as well pull the trigger on an early birthday present to myself. I shot off a PayPal payment and hoped.
Yesterday I got an email notification that the package had shipped. That's a good sign.
Today I got an email. Your package will be delivered today.
Of course, today is a gloomy rainy/foggy/sleeting day so I was checking the tracking number all day. Delivery confirmed at 3:30! I wanted to shoot home, but of course my boss was looking for me for last minute assistance. Then right as I was trying to leave, I got another phone call. I finally got that ended, got home and saw this on the front porch.
He shipped it in the original box. I was afraid that maybe there was some shipping damage.
I brought it in and gingerly unboxed it. This is something like grill 20 for me, and I've never unboxed one! I had one unused grill that was a promo and had been assembled (and left outside for a while), and had a bowl replaced on warranty that I technically took out of the weber box, but never a whole grill.
Even my girlfriend, who is adamantly opposed to new grills was like wow that's crazy. And that fade is so cool!
Winner!

Cool story! Grate find. I have an EE code red mist in decent shape but that is a time capsule.

Sweet score, it is fun unboxing a new vintage grill
Congrats! Now get her hot!
Well done sir
That is so cool! Congrats on the find!
Congratulations. EE (1999) was the last year for wood handles and the last year red kettles were manufactured in the US.
Congrats! Diamond in the rough!
Congrats on a GRATE score. Was that the one on Offerup? I was a day late and a dollar short. Glad someone here got it.
Wow, that's a beauty. Congrats!
Do you know if it was the last year ( manufactured ) for only red kettles? Curious, I have a green.

I believe they stopped in 1999-2000 (EE code) until they new LE Reds started recently.
Very nice! Scoring NOS ( New Old Stock ) unopened or even opened but unused is a real treat. I had a few last year.
Beautiful!
Incredible find!
Love the fade

NICE!
Thanks guys. If the weather turns better I'll get some nicer pictures in the sun (so wait for an update in June I guess).
@1911Ron I think this one is gonna stay pristine a while.
@CatskillSmoker what's offer up? ; )
@WNC thanks! The fade is subtle but beautiful on this one.
That's fantastic!
@captjoe06 Thanks! Hopefully I can get to attend (or host! ) the MA/ New England meet up this summer and you can make its acquaintance!
