I'm wondering 2 things - what is the diameter of the hole where the igniter enters the bowl?
And there are three triangular areas below the charcoal grate that the ash sweepers don't reach; does the igniter tube come through one of those areas? Thanks.

The hole size is in the above post. It is not round.
I think the tube is above the sweeps.

Is it possible that it was assembled wrong???
Post some pics if you can.
Hole is centered between the tip of the sweeps and charcoal grate. You make it a little too high and the burner will come into contact with the grate. Too low and the tip of the sweeps will come into contact with the burner. Hole is slightly oval because of the curvature of the bowl. Slightly larger than 3/4" horizontally and 1" vertically. Adding the pointy tip at the top and bottom of the hole is unnecessary. Just dismantle the burner and insert from the inside of the bowl and then reassemble.

Thanks for the responses, guys. That's the info I was looking for. I should have been clear about the questions. I think a blue Performer is the coolest of the cools, but it looks like the only way you can get it (short of major mods) is with the gas ignition which I have zero interest in. And I wouldn't want the hole in the bowl, especially an oval one.
Yardburner, here is a pic of those triangular areas.

I like the gas assist. Works well and more convenient and cleaner than newspaper or wax starters.
I'm sure it would be easy to remove. Could fill the hole with a fender washer.
I had a blue performer bowl new in box that came without a hole.

My favorite feature of the performer deluxe model is the propane gas grill grill start for the charcoal. No more lighter fluid or pungent self-light briquettes.
