I once bought a gas grill, over a decade ago, around 2003 perhaps.
Never had one before or since.
It wasn't even a Weber.
I don't remember the brand, but it came with a propane tank & I bought it end of year on clearance. It was pretty cheap.
I finally got rid of it early this year.
It sat in the backyard unused the entire time, until I threw it out (it kind of looked like hell from the weather).
I also had an 18" WSM that I used both as a smoker & a charcoal grill (where you throw one of the grates on the bottom over the coals & then put the bottom on the grate on the middle section to raise it, & then just use the lid even though it doesn't have a lip on it.
So, I just never got around to using the propane grill.
My wife and I were gifted a cheap Walmart portable charcoal grill when we got married. I told her we'd never use it as charcoal sucks. It takes too long to light and puts ash all over your food. We didn't grill for 3 years while we lived in our apartment. Once we bought our house, her parents gifted us a Char-Broil has grill. I gladly used it and made food that I thought was great (looking back it was mediocre). That grill quickly turned to shit due to the cheap factor.
Research and @schaefd2 turned me to the light and I'm not going back.

I once got a 100 dollar big lots drum grill, i loved the look of the big drum offset style grills. Still do. Used ti light it with half a bottle of lighter fluid too. But then one day i wanted an upgrade and started looking for webers.

I really don't like cleaning kettles.

I bought a Red SSP last fall, really excellent shape.
Found a place that would fill the old 5lb propane tank even though it didn't have the newer style handle that indicates it has an overfill protection, but it did have a sticker saying it had overfill protection.
I attached it to the SSP & still have no idea if the ignitor works.
Haven't used it.
I use a chimney & crinkled up newspapers, like I've done for a long time.
I bought a 22" rotisserie, pizza kettle, and a 18 blue OTG that I bought a year ago that are still just sitting in my garage waiting to be used. And I will, some day!

Every once in a while, I consider posting an offer to trade my NOS likely early patent pending olive colored grill or maybe to do a write up about it, but not include any pictures.
No doubt someone would come along and say something like "Weber's official name for that color is 'advocado'".
Then, I'd reply "No, I meant the other olive color".
I have 4 kettles at home with another 3 in my storage unit that the wife doesn't know about yet 😬
Every time I tell myself no more grills something comes up and buy (or at least try to) it.

Before I learned about the chimney starter (years ago), I used lighter fluid (oh the horror!)
I don't like MBH's. I usually just give them away. Yes, even the rare and colorful ones.
I have a big green egg on my patio so I can point to it when yuppie friends come over and they try to stunt.
Easy-off is your friend.
I will pay no more than $25 for a one touch gold.
Free kettles are usually too much effort.
Taco handles and extended bowl handles are ugly.
Gas assist sounds awesome but is overrated.
All I want is a 26" performer.
I want to try out an SCG.

This is a cool thread, I feel like I should be lying on a couch while letting it all out LOL I should donate the customary hourly rate to the club
My kids are young so sometimes dinner can't take much time. I contemplate getting a gas Go-Anywhere or small Q series for quick cooks but it's like the angel and devil on each shoulder. I'm getting better at using the mini chimney and using very little charcoal on the CGA to speed up my time to start cooking.

@kettlebb I had the same reservations until I found this Q at Lowes for a steal. I mainly use it for lean chicken to throw in my salads for work. Nothing will replace charcoal flavor but with good seasoning it's decent. I wouldn't pay full price for a gasser but for this Q BNIB I said it's now or never LOL.

Although I like them, other than our original '78 we bought new, and a freebie '78 I just picked up, all my MBHs have moved on to happy owners - my 18 lime MBH, multiple MBH reds, a MLH, and yes, my favorite, the green '78 MBH.
Sold an Avocado Kamado, but still have the green Diem Kamado.
Gave some lighter fluid to my neighbor, but kept a bottle, just because.
Sold the Genesis 3K, but use the Copper Genesis all the time.
Don't care for the CGAs, but really like the Lodge CI hibachi - special gift from Alvin.

I have a strict no taco tolerance rule.
I let a New Braunfels Bandera smoker rust out in the elements because I didn't have space for it in the garage. (The Webers take up FAR less floor space in the garage!). My wife is still mad at me over that one.
I purchased a complete SSP for $25 intending to scrap everything but the frame. The bowl had the spiderweb pocs and the lid was bad faded. I had plans for a portable sink and thought the frame would work perfectly. Got it home and remembered I had just replaced the lid and bowl on my Gen 2. The extra bow and lid worked perfectly so now I have 2 great performers. The project will still take place but I will find an old square tube frame gasser.

Twice a year during bulk trash collection days I get irritated and paranoid thinking that there is a yellow Weber grill sitting at the curb somewhere that I missed because the city changed the trash bins to Packers colors.

On 9/4 I bought a black "open box" patent pending MBH.
No box, so in the back of my mind I was like "riiiiiight".
But, nobody would clean it so well for what I paid for it. Plus, after cleaning it, they basically would have had to age it to the dust & dirt on it to make it look as if its been sitting somewhere out of the box for quite a long time (like in a garage/shed/warehouse/basement). When I looked, none of the dust, dirt or discoloration seems to be any ash or anything from a cook. I'll have to double check for sure, but the cooking grate even seemed a bit heavier duty. (I'm going to weigh it & try measuring the diameter if I can figure out what I did with my calipers). Lastly, the pictures on the ad were just so bad & the price was so cheap, it was apparent the seller had no idea.
I went to get it because of the bit of the back of a wheel I saw in one of the pics. When I removed the legs & the triangle, they seemed so light I assumed the wheels were transitional plastic ones. I then flicked my fingernail against it because I thought they looked like pics of the steel wheels, but I decided it must be plastic (but I was still happy because oh, the new shiny shape they were in under the dust anyway).
Later, I started looking at pics on WKC to see if I could find any transitional plastic wheels that were molded to look like the steel wheels from 62 on. I could not find any pics of any such thing, which made me wonder.
So, today, I took a magnet to the back of my Avalanche (where it's been sitting since I bought it). They are steel. WOOT!
So, in addition to my happy score, my confession is that I kind of stupidly thought a pair of basically old stock steel wheels MUST be plastic AND that I've had this basically new old stock patent pending black MBH w/steel wheels in the back of my Chevy Avalanche for 11 days & counting.
Vortex, and KettlePizza, cast iron pans, and Dutch oven. The items I need. I do not use the KettlePizza as much as I would like, but it is great to have when doing bread, pizza, or cookies. I also use it for cooking the little cocktail weenies wrapped in a Crescent Roll.

My house is kind of centrally located to a lot of the Northern California WKC members. Kettles have a tendency to be dropped off at my house, awaiting transportation by the Nor Cal Weber Express. That's what we call it whenever a member is heading to a specific area and is willing to help by transporting a kettle. My OCD usually kicks in and I end up detailing (steel wool) the exterior of the lids and bowls while the kettle sits at my house. Can't have someone seeing their "new to them" kettle filthy the first time. One is being picked up tomorrow morning as a matter of fact. I even steel wooled the wood handle and put a couple coats of Tung oil on the wood. She's looking pretty now (on the outside). Plenty left for the new owner to do.

2. About two years ago I restored a red SSP to near-mint condition, including getting the tank refilled, but haven't had the heart to use it.
3. I bought a used 22 WSM a couple of years ago and cleaned it to showroom condition, but haven't used it, because I don't feel like messing it up.
4. I once had a turkey on the kettle rotisserie. After checking it, I forgot to put the lid back on. When I returned, it was a fireball.

... I hadn't really cooked on an otg before I rebuilt the p code coppermist mt. I love it as my daily driver and I now understand some disdain for the daisy wheelers. I think mine will see random rotation but my mt and ssp build will see a lot more of the action.... them old grills can oversee and judge youngsters all they want, just don't give me a taco handle.

I started with a Home-Depot charcoal thang, it was kind of square, and had a lid and slides on the front and back, but my didn't come with a slide on the back, it was just open holes...I later looked at the other ones in the store and realized it was a defect, so I use to put aluminum foil to block the holes and move it when I needed to, to allow air in....it's GONE, I now am a proud owner of a Weber Kettle and WSM...no turning back now
Yes, I saw someones post...I too was a Charcoal Liquid Starter Fluid user, but I bought a 5,00 dollar chiminey from Wally-World, and what a dif! In Taste...LOL, One of my boys bought me charcoal, all you have to do is light it, and....pooof you got hot coals....wow, what a horrible taste, I use them now to start the fire pit for late night fires...
I found a Sequoia. The wood cart was painted over, the original bowl (and probably lid) was replaced with a brownie with handles, the hooks to hold the lid were broken off, & it had wheels with more of an "off-road" sort of tread pattern than I saw on pictures of other ones, plus the wheels were missing the white stripe others have. Someone questioned whether the cart might be an original red one, instead of brown. So I planned on inspecting it carefully over the weekend to figure it out. But, I have a wife & two toddlers, plus I began wondering if the wheels were replaced & where I might find the "correct wheels". I'm also trying to find some good pictures from a couple angles of the hooks that are broken off to see if one day I can duplicate the originals (I'll go with something else until then). An additional problem is the hardware varies over time, so I'm trying to get photos from someone with hardware identical to mine.
In any event, I still have not done anything more than glance at the cart.
But, I did wind up acquiring a older 26" that has the exact same wheels. (At least I solved one thing!).
Although I've mentioned it within another thread, I'll mention it here as it is appropriate.
I've liked Webers since I was a kid & only joined this place last fall after finding my 2nd offset handle SJ. I only purchased it because the first one I found was still in the battered box & I probably would have assumed it was a well-built interesting knockoff if the battered box wasn't with it. Probably only 2-3 years ago, I was at a flea market & saw a somewhat battered Weber. Based on the particular flea market, it probably would have been dirt cheap, but it wasn't in that great of shape, appeared to be missing the ashpan & wire triangle & some weirdo had fashioned some sort of messed up triangular pan to the legs, so I didn't even bother walking over to take a closer look. If I had, I might have noticed the triangular pan was just too professionally made to be home-made & too much the right size to some sort of rigged found replacement.
After getting on here, I was reading the age guide and finally realized what I had seen. I could have had a 1950's Weber from before the circular ashpans that came about in 1959 or 1960. Mostly likely, for a song. Still kind of kickin myself.
