That looks like my homemade drip pan. And I just realized you could probably cook in  it too. I should give it a try this week.

Thighs are much worse. Worst for me is when I make 1" crispy pork belly.

Wings lock up ash sweeps after one cook, unless i tinfoil.

Also with anything that has high sugar content such as barbecue sauce can be problematic. Sugar,salt and oil mixed with ashes will create a cement at the bottom of your bowl if you don't use a drip pan or use foil.  It will definitely freeze up or deform your sweeps and render it useless especially if you have an aluminized instead of stainless sweeps.
