Hello all!!
So, I'm curious. Read some stuff tonight about cooking with a Weber Kettle and using real wood chunks. Has anyone tried this? Any feedback on this method?
Thanks in advance
Charlie H
If you can get wood cheap, it's not a bad way to go. You just have to burn the wood down to embers.
Mesquite or pecan ribeyes!!!!!
Not sure what is available in your area, but the bags of chunk wood can be used solely for the heat source instead of just throwing a chunk on the coals. I think the instructions are on the bag. It would be a super expensive way to cook, but if you just want to try, it might be pretty easy if you don't want to mess with gathering and splitting your own.

If you have access to wood chunks, you can use it indirect without the lid. You don't want all that smoke in your food for anything over 275F. The smoke above 275F is very bitter. You can move the coals underneath the food you're cookimg once it turns into embers.

This. It's fun to try but wood bought commercially tends to be expensive and requires a "preburn" to produce embers.

Good advice.
Give it a try. I did in this thread. Works grate!

Also if oyu are going to use wood, a good fire starter is 2 bags of fritos or cheetos under the chunks
I'm cooking with real wood tonight with ash wood left over in the fire pit from st Patrick's day. Only problem is the grate doesn't fit right. Any suggestions?

"Danger Will Robinson" 3rd time I've tried this and I guess I was too impatient. Flavor was not good.

Let the wood burn down to embers. When it looks like hot charcoal, you're good to go.
