I can't even remember how I got this discolored spot on my performer. I am vaguely remembering maybe setting something really hot down on it? Anyway, I was cleaning the grill today and I used some steel wool on this area to no avail. Is there anything else I can try?

Someone here used something like a 4000 grit wet/dry sandpaper... you have to go with the "grain" though.. it think Jim,
@Cellar2ful did a clean up recently...

Thanks for the tip! I'll see if I can find it.

I've sanded with 400 grit and used barkeepers friend with good results.
I'll give it a try. It's almost like the steel turned brown. I hope it comes off!

I would avoid using steel wool on stainless. The carbon steel can leave a coating on the stainless which will rust. Sand it with 300 or 400 grit paper on a block and it should go away.
