I've noticed that the damage to the lids and bowls of some kettles is a golf ball size round mark without (what appears) too much indentation but the enamel is gone. What causes this? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
I asked this same question a while back and got a pretty cool response. Some of the kettles may have been used as target practice with BB guns back in the day. I'm sure once that's not the case for all, but I do know that once a chip starts, I believe with cooking, the heat can make more and more of the area "pop", creating a bigger area.

Did someone say hail damage? There's a matching dent on the vent as well. Makes for a challenge on occasion.
