There is a new and improved Weber Kettle Glossary (http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/wkc-glossary-2017/)!
-----------
Hi folks,
We are gonna start compiling a Weber glossary here on the site so we will need your suggestions and input on what to put in it. I propose that new replies should have a terminology, and if you have a definition that would be awesome. I will update this first post as it comes and we can migrate it to a permanent location later on. Once this gets going we can focus on a Weber FAQ. I will do my best to thank and acknowledge individual contributors. This will be a live post updated daily.
The first word is:
Weberitis- An uncontrollable urge for acquiring and using Weber products, particularly vintage models & hard to find colorways. Possible symptoms include, going on the sears ereplacement parts.com site and pricing bowls and lid assemblies for 22.5 kettles and justifying to yourself "building your own" Weber since you have a couple spare leg kits laying around. Then the wife walks in the room and you immediately minimize the screen on the computer as if you were looking at pr0n. Delete all internet history containing WEBER-STEPHEN, ebay, Craigslist, ACE, MINWAX, and ereplacementparts.com.
(Thanks, Craig) Also Thanks JKolantern for starting the model glossary in your other post.
#
0000- Refers to the fineness of steel wool used to clean and polish porcelain. Will not harm or scratch the surface.

ABT's or Atomic Buffalo Turds as they are also known are considered BBQ Crack in the barbecuing world. They have received this dubious title because they are addicting. If you put a tray of these out at your next party, don't think that there will be any left when you return because your guest will eat these as fast as they are made.

It's a license to grill. A license to grill anything. The Weber Covered way.
You know, we always call eachother Grillfellas. Like, you say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a Grillfella. He's one of us." You understand? We are Grillfellas, Weberguys!

Updated. It's getting hard to read and modify so I will make a local copy in word and just copy and paste. I will do all the official names like sequoia, seville, etc separately and import in one shot to make it easier. Please keep the suggestions coming.
Is this just for weber hardware? Or things we cook on webers.....like SPATCHCOCK chickens, etc.
Everything! Spatchcocked is a good one!

Well in light of my "avacado" grill i was cleaning it and looking at all the scratches n what not....my shotgun slug size hole in the side and got to thinking...I would like to add..... Weber-Glyphics- One kettle scratched so badly that all around the kettle looks like Hieroglyphics. Need to see what im talking about? I got a pic of one.... Like this one...i actually have a creative mind an there are "scenes" happening in my grill.
"Crazing" 1. The cracking of porcelain that sometimes happens on the bowl of a Weber grill when exposed to extremely high heat.
2. The cracking effect on the Weber grill enthusiast when exposed to other Weber grill enthusiasts at the Weber Kettle Club. See also, 'Weberitis'.
;) ;)
I'm a straight K user....but maybe the different kinds of charcoal...heat sources.... Under a blanket heading of...... Heat Sources or something like that.
There's already some stuff under "S".....but I think this needs to be addressed:
SWMBO
maybe with an expansive descriptor?

She

Be
Obeyed (from Rumpole of the Bailey.)
KBB => Kingsford Blue Bag. More unambiguous than "K"
F=Freak. A 'freak' is a very rare grill most would never cook on regardless of it's condition to keep from causing any further wear or damage to it. :D
Examples would be a Galley Que, Penthouse, Original, Custom or Westerner.
Thanks, I will move the list to a file local to my computer and update it this afternoon

Maybe you could include something under the crazing entry on how crazing sometimes looks like scratches. That's how a Weber customer service rep described the photo I emailed to her. I then had to explain to her that it was called crazing. I got all smug and grillfella-ish on her.
OPD , as in OPD style handle.
Quote from: 1buckie on May 15, 2013, 08:00:33 AM
OPD , as in OPD style handle.
Is that referring to the gas valve handle as in Overfill Prevention Device? If not, what is an OPD style handle?
Also... bail vs. bale?
bail:
1. The arched hooplike handle of a container, such as a pail.
2. An arch or hoop, such as one of those used to support the top of a covered wagon.
3. A hinged bar on a typewriter that holds the paper against the platen.
4. The pivoting U-shaped part of a fishing reel that guides the line onto the spool during rewinding.
bale:
A large package of raw or finished material tightly bound with twine or wire and often wrapped: a bale of hay.
Some Weber kettles have a bail to hold the lid in place (e.g. Jumbo Joe or SJG)
I think that's what is was Hank.....I kept seeing it refered to around this time, when there was a lot of Performer rehabs going & didn't know for absolute....so I put it in here..... ;D
Mighta spelled bale wrong a time or two also...... :-[
BUMP.
Puckerbutt: A condition caused by improper/upside down leg assembly on the following models. Smokey Joe, Smokey Joe Tuck 'N Carry, Smokey Joe Gold, Outrider, Jumbo Joe (pre 2000), Smokey Joe Platinum (2000-2006)
The Smokey Joe equivalent to Caddywampus for 18,22,26 kettles.
FTC - foil, towel, cooler. Way of keeping your cook warm for hours.
BUMP!
With the Master Touch returning stateside for 2015 I propose we add:
G1 MT: Master Touch Kettles made from 1992-1999 in the U.S. (Generation 1)
G2 MT: Master Touch Kettles made in the U.S. Beginning in 2015. (Generation 2)
Boobie: WKC slang term for the varying two tone pinkish "Chestnut Copperton" 22.5 kettles available from the mid 1950s through the late 1960s.
I seen some people post AD ... I also seen CB for CharBroil , that is not on the list.
Load - traditional word used for the meat in a BBQ cooker
AS - Action Shot - a picture of you cook as it is happening
KU and KD - kettle up and kettle down, for open or closed kettles
BA - Beer Abuse - spilling a beer
I like that GrillFellas
When I had my stick burner guys used to call me the pit master, but to tell you the truth I always considered that an insult.
I consider myself a griller, I can do entire meals on the grill, whether indirect or direct, Pitmasters are guys who work BBQ pits. I think a griller is someone who masters the art of grilling, not just BBQing. And you see a lot of grillers who will tell you that Nothing grills like a Weber. BBQing is such a small part of the grilling world.
Now can a stick burner out BBQ a Kettle, yes it is a specialized cooking device, but a kettle can get close and it can do everything else while it is doing so.,
Yea the word GrillFella works real well. Kind of sounds like a word you would want to be called.

Original Kettle Premium Is that the same as One Touch Gold just renamed?
If so, should OTG have an explanation next to it that it can be referred to as an Original Kettle Premium
If it is not the same, then OKP for Original Kettle Premium could be added explaining the differences.
Mothership should be added.

I think what will/should happen is that if it is a OTG (2000-2014) then it is indeed an
OTG. Much like the OKP's lineage, the 1988-1991's with a lid bale would be a
OT+ and 1992-99 would be an
MT or MTG1 for generation one. 1964-1980 kettles are referred to as MBH. 2015-present "OTG" would be OKP. The OKP is hard for me to get used to but it helps differentiate for age/history's sake.
