My 2nd gen Performer ash sweeper has become locked in place & cannot be moved for the 2nd time. Any help on why this has happened?
:)
Just probably need to clean the bottom of the bowl. Ash,oil and food debris will accumulate at the bottom creating a solid buildup of hard gunk if not cleaned periodically. This will prevent the sweeper to move side to side freely.

Thanks I will try that.
Hope that fixes it. Tend to happen more frequently during the winter months when oils and other drippings solidifies after the grill cools down. If possible try to use a drip pan to limit the drippings from accumulating at the bottom of the grill.

Cleaned the bottom and still stuck. Won't budge. Contacted Weber Customer Service got another on the way.
Sweet sauces will freeze the sweeps if allowed to collect around them. I brake free with a small scraper

I've had the sauce thing happen to me as well.
I sprayed hot water on the sweeps and
used an old guitar string like dental floss
between the sweep and the bowl.
You gotta clean that crap out soon
after it happens. If it gets burned in it
sets up like super glue and you have to soak it out

Yup. Crud gets built up in the bottom of the bowl. Gotta keep it cleaned. 8)
I got a free kettle the other day where the sweeps were completely rusted in place!! I if you turn the kettle upside down my kettle had a nut and a thumb screw, a deep socket fits over the thumb screm and with a little pb blaster and a little work I had it free in no time and working great, I have never had one of my sweeps seize on me yet, I usually sleep a couple of times throughout my cooks and then clpse the vents all shut when I am done using the grill

Ended up calling Weber customer service end up getting a free on cause I had the same thing happen a year ago. Was still under warranty.
Time for a drip pan. That is the best way to avoid this. WD-40 also helps to free it up. Then if you have an air compressor, blow it out and then the crud comes out with the little bit of rust ( old style ) and it moves easier .

Try squirting some wd40 or other penetrant where the stem sticks through the bowl, inside and out. Humidity almost turns ash to concrete around here, had that happen recently where it stuck the blades to the kettle. I had to scrape around the edges of the blades to free them. I try to get ash out ASAP after grilling now and close top and bottom vents.
If you can Kroil penetrating oil it's the best you can buy IMO and will make short work of freeing it up.
