Many of the Target stores are dropping price on the Weber charcoal again. I just picked up 2 bags at the Pittsburg CA store for $5.98. (would have grabbed more but I'm traveling and my wife said she won't ride with more than 1 bag on her lap)

More than one bag on her lap.. LOL!
Good stuff. Ty for the heads up
Thanks! Just checked....it's down to $9.98 here. May just have to give a bag a try.
Don't take her next time.
You can probably stack 4 or 5 bags on the seat!!

Down to $9.98 here. Weber never sent me the free sample email, so I grabbed a couple bags to try. I'll check back in a few days and hopefully it'll be $5.xx
Not in SoCal. Nothing ever gets marked down here.
Rivergate, TN Target had about 50+ for $5.98 each. I picked up 4 bags. (still lots left) I would have bought more but I already stocked up on Kingsford, Royal Oak and Stubbs. Probably have about 40 bags of charcoal.
The way this charcoal is moving even at a discount makes me think we won't see any after this run. May want to save a few bags as collector pieces. ;)

I hope you're right. It is good charcoal...
There's no way it could have failed so hard that Weber pulls it after a few months...
It's a great charcoal, I wish the targets near me would offer some markdowns.
Thanks to this thread I checked at the local Target and got 4 bags at $5.98. Thinking I will need to get more as I am getting low on Stubbs.
I picked up several bags and I think it's excellent. Low and slow to me is what it's made for.

$9.98 is the best price in Chicago; just picked up 10 bags yesterday and I may go back this weekend.
At that price, I would've bought every bag they had.
$5.98 a bag is obviously not viable, but truth be told, I'd dare say while $9.98 is a good end of season clearance price, it's even cheaper that Kingsford and nearing Royal Oak price range.
I think $13-$15 is a good price range as it "shows" that Weber Charcoal is a premium product but not cost prohibitive. Before the end of season clearance, I'd been nursing the two bags I bought to try because $1 a pound is a bit much....
Even thought this is my hobby and I have a "little something" in my monthly budget for it, cheap bastard that I am, I just can't justify $20 a bag when Stubb's is $8-$9 all day long.
Only place I have seen the Weber Charcoal is at the local hardware store. All they have is a single bag and it is $20.00
Down to $5.98 at some stores in Sacramento.

a couple local stores dropped to $9. I'll stock up at that price, but I think I'm going to see if they go lower.

I know where I am going tonight.
I'm going to pick up another 10-12 bags tomorrow and I should be good for the near future; that is unless it drops again.
Also thinking about grabbing the remaining Coal Rakes for $4.48 and putting on eBay for $10. I already grabbed 3 for myself and there were easily 10-15 left.....
Thanks! $5.98 in DC but $9.98 is the cheapest near my work.
BrickSeek price was incorrect for the 1 Target I just checked. They listed it at $5.98 but price was $9.98. Talked to a worker who said he priced them yesterday. I bought only 1 cuz they had 31 bags and I'll be checking other stores for that $5.98 killer deal, and I hope that 9.98 drops next week.
Finally showing 9.98 for my location. I'll be keeping an eye on it closely for sure!
Pick up a few bags today at my local Target for $5.98. They had 34 bags. Will probably go back and grab a few more

Same here. Still $9.98 at the Greenbelt Target online, but it isn't even out on the floor yet. The stock guy told me that it's actually sold out (?) I think he didn't know what he was talking about. The Target in Columbia Heights DC shows them as $5.98. Gonna call first before taking the drive.

Just went to one in Sacramento and got 10 bags. The tracker showed it at $5.98 but it rang up as $9.98. The manager honored the $5.98. The charcoal was not on the floor and they had to get it out of the backroom.

@MTW524 you are smart to check first. BrickSeek says it's $6.98, but I just called the store and they say it's $9.98. They have 15 bags left as of 8pm on Tuesday, so good luck! I think I'll be sitting this one out, as I'm a huge fan of Stubbs and I currently have enough to make it through the winter.

Mike. I called ahead to this Target in DC, the rep said that they do actually have them in stock with currently about 16 +/- bags at $9.98. Brickseek says they should be $5.98 at this location. Oh well, I'm here now. Gonna grab two, maybe three bags...maybe four. Five. Four. Okay five.

Yes, definitely double-check Brickseek before getting in your car. I just called another Target to confirm that they had about 20 bags priced at $9.98 (the Target website also said they had this charcoal in stock), but the person at the store said they had zero in stock.

There were 18 bags at the Target River North(Division & Larabee) when I got there, exactly as shown on Brickseek; I bought 10 and left 8, 7 are good, one bag has a slight tear....I'll give you guys 2 weeks to pick them up before I clear the shelves.

Pick your price. $19.99, $9.98 and $5.98 depending on the location.
Following the Wed formula for Target outdoor clearance markdowns BrickSeek showed the price drop last night late and sure enough I just grabbed 6 bags from the Dardene Prairie store. Still 6 left. Showed 12 on BrickSeek last night. Strange that none of the other grilling accessories or grills were on clearance yet. I have 4 targets around me most of them have like half an isle of outdoors left. and like nothing on sale, just a matter of time till everything is on sale. happens every year. seems like more people are aware of bbq grilling deals
Target closest to me has 18" kettles for $64.98 as well, just just not a big enough discount to be bothered with CL, letgo and OfferUp damned near giving them away, non-taco at that....
just finished picking up 19 bags at a Target near me for 5.98 a bag. The manager told me that the directive was to first list at 9.98, then drop to 5.98 if the stuff didnt sell. This particular target always has poor outdoor sales so they dropped down to 5.98. If you gamble and wait it out your local target may drop the price further.

To be honest, this is the first time that I've been able to take advantage of a really good sale; what is considered proper etiquette in these situations?
At what threshold is it ok to "sweep" the shelves, less than 5, 10, 20? There were 18 on hand for my last trip and I bought 10, leaving 8. I jokingly posted here that I was giving everyone two weeks before buying the rest, but aside from karma/paying it forward, would I have been wrong to buy all 18 that day?
Absolutely not! I would have grabbed every last bag at $5 a shot 8)
I made it there today. Only grabbed 8 bags. I left 16. Ugh. I have a bunch of Stubbs, KKB, and k-comp to last till next Memorial Day sale. Lol. Should last me a while.

I always try and leave 1 on any deals I score but the Weber Charcoal is pushing my karma commitment. ;)
I arrived at a Target that I've never been to before at 9 am today. I made a bee line to the farthest corner from the entrance, cuz that's always where the bbq and clearance stuff is.
Checked all the shelves and the only charcoal was K Blue. Wha??????!!!! Brickseek said there were 18 bags before I left the house. I flagged down a worker and he found it, all the way back down in the front. He saw the price and said Holy Shit that's a good price. I said how many bags should I leave you, lol?
I only bought 10, which makes 11 bags of this and around 500#s of fuel altogether.
I finally used the free sample last night. I did some thighs, sausage, baked beans, and then charred some peach halves for dessert. I'm so used to using lump that the smoke/stench at start up really turned me off, but it's pretty good stuff anyway. I'm doing a picnic w/ it now in the WSM.
It's hardwood, it's cheap, and it's Weber. ;)

Grab it all. If later you find that someone else locally wanted some, then you can decide whether to sell them some of your's, but you wouldn't be under any obligation to do so.

I think it would do well in the $12-$15 a bag range as $20 is hard to justify when Stubbs is just as good, just a smaller briq at almost half the price. At $12-$15, it's still seen as a premium product, but not cost-prohibitive....

Talked to the manager of one of the few Targets in the area that actually had some in stock (closeout price $9.98) and showed her this thread and and I asked if it was possible to price match and was told that it was their policy to not honor price matches on closeout items. She did say that if the Target online price was lower they could honor it, which it is not. She was not sure if they would drop the price any lower and suggested I check back on the stock and price for that particular store, and if it does drop, to call CS and have them hold it in my name.
I never buy anything grill related from Target and what consisted of their "grill aisle" was the far corner surrounded by cheap garden supplies. I had to ask where it was and got the old "all of our seasonal items are usually....) and what remaining bags of Weber briqs were on the end cap. Must be a Washington thing?

She was not sure if they would drop the price any lower and suggested I check back on the stock and price for that particular store, and if it does drop, to call CS and have them hold it in my name.
I never buy anything grill related from Target and what consisted of their "grill aisle" was the far corner surrounded by cheap garden supplies. I had to ask where it was and got the old "all of our seasonal items are usually....) and what remaining bags of Weber briqs were on the end cap. Must be a Washington thing?
All depends on the managers. There are several Targets within range (heh) for me and they are all different when it comes to clearing out the Weber stuff. It's kind of annoying.
I called around and the closest Target that had any was about an hour away, so this morning I drove there and bought 16 bags at $5.98 each.

I've now got 500+ lbs. of charcoal on hand, which will easily get me into winter, so here's my plan. If Brickseek is accurate- the numbers seem to be updating- there are many bags left within decent driving distance of me, so I'm gonna see if any of it goes from 70% to 90% off.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Does anyone have a compare and contrast write up of the Weber briquettes vs Stubbs?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So I'm curious if anyone knows why the big discounts. A couple weeks back I also found discounted 4lb bags. Is Weber getting out of the charcoal biz?

@swamprbNope....you could be right around the corner from me in Sacramento & it would look the same.....
As soon as they start getting ready to set up the back-to-school aisles, all the BBQ stuff drops, in weird ways & fits & starts......all different, in different areas of town....probably got 8 Targets within striking distance & none are identical as to when & how this stuff happens....
Good day today. BS said a nearby Target had 16 in stock (had 25 yesterday). Went over and found them all in back corner of the seasonal section. Found an employee and asked them for a flat card, he came back with one and proceeded to load it for me.
Paid and headed out the door, he told me to pull my vehicle up and he'd load it for me. Triple bonus time. Ended up with 16 bags.
Headed out to another store 4 miles away. BS reported 6 bags. Went to back corner and only saw matchlight and Kingsford. Checked the price scanner and it showed 6 on hand but it didn't show a location. The hunt was on. Went up and down the main aisle ways checking the clearance end caps. Ended up finding the 6 bags on an end cap at the front corner of the store next to groceries.
So, 22 bags to go with what I had previously gotten. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170730/7ebecacd62163b62a7dedac0576698a5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170730/cbdc71c4e53f08fcca184e47c6e90cc7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170730/46143d5eeccf338ecd716aaa55bfef93.jpg)

Thanks for the alert! The store in Clinton Township had a pallet of marked at $9.95 but is scanned $5.98. Got 10 bags. Hope it's good stuff!
Judging by the comments here I'm sure it is.

I'm not a veteran charcoal guy either, but the weber seems to me like it doesn't smoke as much, burns longer, doesn't produce as much ash, and really at $5.98 for a 20# bag vs. $9.98 for the double packs of the 16.7# kbb when you catch it on sale, the weber is a better deal.

This was a 2x1 snake. Made the snake about 3/4 of the way around my 22 inch SSP. Ran for 14 hrs. Easily could have gone a few more. Held 260-275 (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170731/b71c38da5225518c1acafd5f54b060f7.jpg)
Weber charcoal is great stuff.
Approximately how much does a box of that charbroil lump weigh. Lowest price near me is $8.79. I wouldn't mind trying some, but my brain is having a hard time comprehending the relative value of $8.79 per 2039.04 cubic inches of charcoal.
11lbs give or take....

Has anyone compared Weber briquettes to Stubbs briquettes? I tried looking to see if there was some type of comparison that popped up in a google search.
I know Weber briquettes are larger...but do they provide the same heat as Stubbs? Similar aroma and flavor to food?

I gotta say, the Target markdown policy is pretty annoying. I have two stores in town. One had it at $5.98 and sold out while I was out of town. The other store has almost 30 bags, but has refused, so far, to reduce the price beyond $9.98. The manager explained that ""we don't price match." I'm sorry, but pricematching is honoring another company's advertised price, not maintaining consistent pricing within your own company. It was especially annoying because the employee at first store told me the other would have the same markdown, and they did not.
My wife and I have had several frustrating transactions with Target over the years, and while we generally enjoy shopping there, this is the kind of experience that inclines me to take my business elsewhere.
Of course, I'll go back to Target on Wednesday to see if they've marked it down again. lol
@cbpeck
Target stores really vary...and so do their managers.
I went down to a Target last night where brickseek said were marked at $5.98. I get there...plenty of bags...but still $9.98. Scanned at $9.98 in store. Asked the manager if they would adjust the price as seen o. Brickseek...they flat out refused. Said it was an external website and is in no way accurate to what their particular stores prices were.
I'll call next time before driving down there.

How many did BS show in stock and does it still show as in stock ? Did you look all over the store for it ? I found some on a random end cap well away from the seasonal/clearance area.
Targets around here (N.Central MD)
have completely switched over to
back to school. I sometimes find
Q stuff in the housewares and the
"hardware" (lightbulbs, etc.)
You gotta dig a little.
As nice as Target is at times,
Walmart is much more logically

One store had 28, the other 23. I searched every isle in both stores for about an hour each. No one could locate them in the back either. Apparently I wasn't the only person who asked about them. Brickseek is still showing them in stock.

When the Fenton store (StL) showed a price of $9.98, a manager told me that every bag they had was in the stockroom, and not discounted... in fact, their inventory system showed they were discontinued. She said that meant that they would be sending them back to the manufacturer.
Two weeks later, Brickseek showed them at $5.98, with 33 in stock. I called, and the employees could not locate them. A week after that, Brickseek went from showing 33 in stock to 0.
The StL/Chesterfield store showed 29 bags at $5.98 last week. I couldn't locate them, and had an employee check the stockroom... all of their bags were on a pallet to be sent back. He brought me six bags out. I'm guessing that they must have put the remaining stock back out on the floor, because Brickseek is now showing 17 in stock.

No they didn't. I drove out Monday night, and bought the bags that dropped the inventory number down. Had to ask an employee to get the for me. I am going to Kirkwood target today to get some more as they are now down to 5.98 but will be calling first.
The Kennewick, WA store finally dropped the price from $9.98 to $5.98 yesterday morning, so i went and grabbed another 18 bags for a total of 20. I also grabbed four grill mitts at $2.38 each and a charcoal rake for $7 something. As much as I've been complaining about how Target does these markdowns, it sure is nice to get in there and leave with a great deal (and plenty of "whoa" looks from the staff and other customers).

ARRRRRG!
Had a buddy pick up 11 bags for me @ $5.98 while on vacation. He said that was all that was left. Checked when I got home and BS said they still had 15. Went up and found them and bought 3 more. I should have bought them all and may go back!!! :)
8 bags last night of the $5.98 20# Weber. Making my last run of the summer tonite. I'll take what they have and Brickseek says that have 18 bags...
Yikes.
Picked up 16 today! All the local stores were out, had to travel about 24 miles for it. Definitely worth it!

What store did you go to? I was hoping to pick some more up in Shakopee on Saturday as they had about 22 bags listed still. Looked today, 0. Oh well, I still have a lot of charcoal. Going to try it with some Pork Butts on Sunday.
Brickseek knows all... But they are +/- 5 bags.
Bought another 5 bags at the Brentwood, TN location. The price just dropped to $5.98 and I didn't have to drive very far. Woohoo! They still had about 20 bags left.
TENNESEE PEOPLE: It was killing me today, because on my way home from a family trip I dashed into Target for a phone cord and there were about 20 bags at $5.98 just sitting there... and me with a completely full trunk and 500 miles to go. DANG IT.
I called back to my FIL in the hopes that he would get some, but I guess he isn't insane like me and did other things today.
So if anyone is within striking distance of the Target at the foot of Signal Mountain on Chickamauga Dam Road, PLEASE get there so I can sleep tonight.
(the only consolation was that part of my cargo was four sweet logs of mountain hickory...)
Okay, please learn from my folly:
Step 1: I ignored Brickseek, because it didn't correlate in any way with the Target website.
Step 2: I ignored the Target website, because it didn't correlate with the phone calls I made to Target.
Step 3: I called about 6 stores in my area to check on stock, and they authoritatively told me that no one had any Weber charcoal in stock. Except for one store, who said they had only two bags which they would hold them for me.
Step 4: Showed up at the store today, collected my two bags, and just for grins I headed to the back corner of the store (aka, clearance area). Where I found four more bags.
Step 5: Just for grins, I stopped at another Target on my way home, where I found six more bags (remember that they previously said they had zero).
Lesson: Target has no earthly idea of their inventory. I let my fingers do the walking, but that was dumb. I should have just driven to the goshdarn stores.
FWIW, everything I saw today was priced at $9.98. Kinda bummed to miss out on the super-bargain $7 stuff, but I think I'm more glad to be done driving around with three kids and stuffing 20lb bags of charcoal under their feet in the back seat.

Up over 800# and essentially cleaned out the Twin Cities Metropolitan area of the 20# bags of Weber. Maybe a dozen left at between $10 and $20 a bag.

A bit off topic, but I gotta announce a personal victory- I finally snagged some Weber Cubes below retail! This particular search had reached near-grail status. :)
Found at a Walmart for $2, 50% off. I know they get marked down to like $1.18, but I jumped and bought the last 12 boxes. (I also use them for the wood stove in the house.)
Come on Weber Light My Fire... ::)

@charred thanks for the heads up! I just scored 30 packs of Weber cubes at $1/each.

For those reporting $9.98 check because mine was marked $9.98 (clearance) but price check showed $5.98. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170817/771c74c47a488649d7634aefb3806c3e.jpg)

That's a fantastic deal on the starter cubes! You've got me wanting to go back!
@Charred thanks for the heads up also. 1 Walmart in my area had 7 boxes and I got them all for $1 each.

Cool. I grabbed 4 more boxes today- 2 @ $2 and 2 @ $1.
Ok, I'm pissed. I went to a nearby Walmart today where they had twelve boxes of starter cubes that were full price. I had a cashier scan them and everything. She said try again next month. Ugh.
@cbpeck use the brickseek link in the earlier posts in this thread. It will show the inventory and price of nearby stores.
I don't shop at Walmart so help me out fellas. If I take my receipt from store A to store B will Walmart price match the cubes to $1?

It has finally arrived, in a box? I was expecting a small bag--but whatever, it's free charcoal. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170828/ffc49b0b74fe7088b2097a2e031d0b9c.jpg)

Damn I missed out on all these deals! Nothing left in my area.
My local target removed all leftover from stock. Had them out back on a pallet and wouldn't sell them to me.
What happens to them now?

I think that's a good sign, in that they'll be selling it next year and we can look forward to clearance deals.
Just a heads-up... i don't know what Meijer's clearance process is, but weber charcoal is on clearance @ $15 a bag. Maybe it will keep dropping like target?(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170923/a26fb0cdd21b2e0f9d4a238a413189b2.jpg)

Idk but my Meijer has had them priced at $14.99 on clearance for weeks. I'll go check tomorrow to see if it dropped here.
I did pick up 9 packages of Weber lighter cubes for $2 each at my local Walmart today.

Nobody knows the clearance process at meijer? That "pull tag" number must mean something... just wonder if i should pull the trigger now or roll the dice on it dropping further.

Not sure what specifics you are after. I checked and my Meijer has it at $9.99 also. I plan to go tomorrow and load up.

Specifics as far as if and when it will drop further... seems like target had lowered the price on seasonal items year after year up to 75% off... does meijer do the same? 10 bucks is a great price but if i could wait a few days and get it even cheaper, wouldn't it make more sense?

Yes it would
@Mkrause but I'm not going to chance it and miss out on an already good deal. 0.49/lb isn't bad at all for this stuff. When I go to buy some today I'll ask some associates if they know that it will get discounted more.
Lowe's has the Weber charcoal on clearance at $13.99. Not nearly as good as the Target price, but it could get discounted again. I sure hope Weber keeps selling the stuff in the years ahead.
$13.99 is about what is should be so as to allow Weber to market it as a premium product without of being cost prohibitive for a consumable. That would allow then to then price it at 2 for $20 for the summer holidays.
It's currently my favorite briquette, but I would not pay regular price; I know it burns longer and can be reused, but so can Stubb's at less than half the price.
I'd go $14 to try it out, but it's about out of my price range. And so is any decent charcoal. I may have to switch to a gas grill if this keeps up.
At MSRP, $20 isn't out of line from other premium briquets. But Weber has a real problem here: they don't discount, and the other brands' "$20 bags" have lower street prices.
And I see another, longer-term problem. By clearencing these out, Weber is telling us not to grill except for spring and summer. EARLY summer, at that, since these clearance prices began in July. Why did they even bother selling these in the U.S.?
It's the stores, not Weber, that are clearancing them out. Like the grills themselves, most stores consider it a seasonal item and basically get rid of them to make way for Halloween decorations, snowblowers, Christmas decorations and whatnot.
I've usually loaded up on the Kingsford when Home Depot & Lowes would have them 2 for $9.88 for many holiday weekends that people often barbecue over.
I'm thinking about trying out lump charcoal from a place called Berger Brothers in Chicago. They seem to get good reviews, but I wondered if anyone here tried them. I know there is differences I can expect with lump charcoal, but thought I'd check it out to see if I like it more or less.
I bought 5 bags at Meijer tonight. I asked the cashier if the clearance price would drop again or what the policy is. She said if it doesn't sell they will stock it till next season and put it back out at retail price. We'll see if that's true. Probably 7-9 bags left at my store. Just no more room for it at home.
