Beaten by the 7409 ash sweep washer.
What's its purpose, other than to piss me off? :o

thanks, but what am I looking for/at?
@ charred, i don't know! :) i couldn't figure out what the problem was that you were having with the washer....so i posted a pic so you could point out what was wrong. aren't we all using h washer these days anyway?
lol. ok.
I bought a work table that came w/ a black OTS. I was surprised I could loosen the thumbscrew by hand, so I decided to use that 7409 for a Red SSP restore. I can't squeeze the sweep handle rod through the hex nut with the washer in place. After fighting it for half an hour I left it off. Sweeps work fine without it and everything seems stable.
@charred - The washer on #7409 sweeps is used on non ash bucket models, taking the place of the cross bar on the OTS's. With no cross bar on the OTS's the washer is needed to make up for the absence of the cross bar. As you have already determined, toss the washer when installing #7409 sweeps on a SSP. Not needed. Wished I could have saved you the 1/2 hour frustration.
I have a 26er that is so tight, I can't get the handle on with the washer..
Is it because some kettles are thicker or the washers are?
