I'm been cooking with this setup for the last couple of months and its been working really well

I then decided to make a charcoal basket to hopefully stop any spalling on the enamel

The charcoal basket is great, cause I can just shake out the ash and restack
It also holds plenty of fuel, I've done a 7 hr cook with it and there was still fuel left
I thought I'd upgrade my baffle / deflector and convert it into a drip tray as well

So no more drip trays!!!!
All I have to do is line it with some foil and I have a drip tray that covers the complete cooking area of my kettle
I have been wanting something like that. I have just been using foil. How did you make the bends? Would you consider making me one? ???
Yes - I am interested in this as well. Would love to make some RK size baskets. The pan looks like it was from a hot water heater pan

I've been thinking of how I could make them up cost effectively
The materials were cheap I just used some aluminum I had lying around, it started off like this

I traced the charcoal grate onto a sheet of aluminum , traced another line about an inch wider, cut it out with an angle grinder , I kept on cutting down until I had a perfect fit on top of the grate, work out where your basket is going to sit and cut the circle down
I then bought a couple of meters of flat aluminum about an inch wide
Now comes the expensive part...... Getting it welded on :'(
There are no bends its just inch wide aluminum welded on
I used aluminum because its cheaper, easier to work with and a lot easier to clean
I've tried it on high heat cooks and low and slow and it doesn't seem to effect the metal
It was really easy to make and having the deflector on the charcoal grate has made a huge difference to the amount of heat produced, the convection effect inside the kettle,easier temp control, the amount of fuel used and the consistency of cooking on the grate
Combined with the vertical deflector they have given me so much more cooking area with no worries about direct heat
I also made up a special deflector plate to use with the roti ring that works a treat if you like that true charcoal flavour

I was looking around the internet and thinking about doing this today at lunch and got to thinking
about using a aluminum pizza pan as the base. The charcoal grate is about 16" and 17" seems to be a standard size pan on Amazon. I don't know what sheet aluminum is running these days and it may be a lot cheaper to go the hand fab route rather than buying a cheap pizza pan? Just some thoughts rattling around in my head. If I get sidetracked with this project and don't get the grass mowed this weekend I'm blaming you Hogsy! ;D

What diameter did you end up with for the circle?
It was 34.5 cm (not sure in inches)
I recommend tracing it on cardboard though to make sure it's a good fit with the basket before cutting the aluminum

I measured mine it it seems around 45cm at the charcoal grate.

I forgot to mention I made my own charcoal basket out of an old kettle, it holds as much as two weber baskets and is about the same size as the smokenator, the tray fits the basket and the smokenator
