Title: 1973(?) Red 18 - "The Easterner"
Post by: SixZeroFour on January 05, 2016, 03:07:37 PM
I recently picked up this red in a trade with member @GregS. It's in excellent shape and almost has a hint of a fade to it. If you look closely in a few spots the red on the bowl wasn't sprayed on heavy enough so it appears ever so slightly darker (I love it!). It has a beautiful lustre to it in person and makes my 78' red appear almost semi-gloss in comparison... and its new!

Absolutely! And it's not a new thing!... somehow I've been a magnet for red kettles right from the get go. They do seem to be more common out this way then they are in other places but still! I'd have to double check but I bet at least 10 red kettles passed through the laboratory last year :o ;D

Thank you very much for the kind words! This one was a quick restore and the 78' is the new kettle... I didn't explain myself very well in the last post ;)

It was already in real nice shape and quite clean on the outside. I gave it the usual once over - polished up the legs, triangle and ash pan, cleaned up the wheels and handle, and did a deep clean on the inside of the kettle. Most of the time spent was on the bowl interior and cleaning up all the vents but all in all it was a pretty easy process.

Here are the two kettles side by side. The photo doesn't even come close to showing the difference to the naked eye but you can see it a bit. The 78' is just a tiny step closer towards crimson in color and doesn't have as deep of a gloss to it.

Thanks again
