Last week I was cooking something and wanted a hot fire and grate. I pulled the lid 'ajar' by about an inch to give it extra air for a minute, and came back to that scene. I am not sure if the lid itself was just that hot (I do not think so) or if it just funneled the heat/flame toward where there was an air gap (I think so). Either way, if you want to put the lid ajar, don't sort of rest it on one of the handles.... It doesn't end well.
That sucks a bunch....
Wonder if they started making the handle struts longer ( I think the newest ones are like that ) for just such occasions ?

Hogsy. I have loads of Brians handles, thank god none were installed on this beater 18 OTG! (I call it a beater because it was 20 bucks, and is the one destined for the sometimes short legged camping kettle. It is actually in great shape).
Re the warranty call, I had never considered it. I consider this user error. If I call and order a leg kit direct I may mention it.
G$ I would have warrantied my handles if you burned it up.....put it on there. If it burns I'll send you another!
