I have been trying to find a kettle of color on Craigslist for a couple months now. I don't see them very often unless they are way out of my price range (I am broke paying for baby sitting in the summer). I thought maybe I need some kettle karma. I picked up 3 closeout original kettles around Vancouver, WA over the last 3 weeks from Target, one at $50 and the other 2 at $30. I gave both of the $30 ones away to co-workers in hopes that it would somehow help me find what I was looking for on CL. Over the last 3 weeks I have missed by under 30 minutes, a copper mist for free (I hate to say it but I think it went to a scrapper). A really nice red MBH and a newer green (not my first choice but not trying to be picky). Yesterday I had someone on my street selling a 1981 black kettle, it wasn't in good shape and it was missing parts but the frustrating thing was that is was 1 year off from my birthday so I can share in the birthday kettle forum. Can anyone give me ideas of how I can turn my luck around :P. On the bright side I just smoked a brisket last night on the new black original, I will show pics later, and I have been cooking 4 nights a week on my copper one touch my wife got me for fathers day. I just really want an older yellow, red, cado" etc.
Just keep hunting. You'll find them eventually. The helping people out should certainly payoff. I think one of the best sentiments I've seen is a tagline that says something along the lines of "you can get whatever you want if you help enough people".
Looks like you've already got a copper, which is a sweet new color. Just take your time and remember, its a marathon, not a sprint (especially if your birth-year is within one of 1981!)
Try widening your search.
My in laws live about three and half hours away from us, so I always check all the cities between us and them, especially when I know we have a trip planned. The Reds I got were about half the distance between us, and the guy was cool enough to hold them for me for a couple of weeks.
(And just to put it into perspective, that was after a couple of years of searching, and I haven't found another colored one in the last couple of years.)
Just keep looking...
Thank you guys. I am so new at this I need to remember that

jacmac,
Are you using some form of CL notification ? Or just searching randomly ? If you do have a notifier, what is the search string that you are using ?
Stop looking... love never happens when your looking.
What part of the world are you in?

I just noted it was a b code. I was also born in 1980. It was meant to be.
