Post by: 1911Ron on June 24, 2015, 08:38:32 PM
My search fu is terrible, I need to reshape a vent and to do that I need to drill out the rivet and replace it with a screw and nut.

Someone has done it and I can't remember who or what search parameters I need to use, can someone help me? :-[

Here is a good thread:
http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/hardware-for-bottom-vents/msg155786/#msg155786
That will lead you to this:

In this thread @DirectDrive  talks about reattaching it with a rivet:

He has pictures of it farther down the thread. Looks sharp.

It was a button head type machine screw.....Allen drive.
And a Weber lock nut that came with the daisy wheel kit.
A Gripco type lock nut would work too.

A lock washer is not a good choice for this application because it's a connection that must move.
The lock washer solution would eventually loosen up.

The Gripco is a deformed lock nut and does not have a nylon insert.
You can see the press marks on the side of the nut.
Break in the Gripco on a regular bolt first, so you will have an easier go when switching to the Allen wrench.
