For obvious reasons :)
Our first trip out this year we headed about 70 miles into the backcountry of Northern Idaho and the Bitterroot Wilderness area . This is the country Lewis and Clark struggled to cross in the winter and almost starved to death . This station sits at what would be the jumping off point for anyone wanting to head into the backcountry . The Forest Service keeps there pack horses and back country crews housed here in Wall Tents just across the river . I stayed at the Rangers Cabin and in between fishing and hiking I got a few cooks in .

I was hiking a trail along the river looking for fishing spots. I noticed a huge meadow full of yellow flowers down below me and then spotted the Bear feeding on the flowers . I watched it for quite a while and then it slowly moved on .

Wow - beautiful country. A nice vacation for you and your red-headed friend!
Fantastic! Of course the kettle looks great, but what a refreshing trip that must have been! Pull anything out of the river?
Oh my. That looks like a splendid little trip you had Idahawk. All the Kettle shots are beauty and that shot of the rod tip and line is fantastic.
@Saugust I didn't catch a thing. When I saw the bear I was actually up a side stream trying to at least catch a Brook Trout for supper.... If I had to survive. On fish I'd be dead :)

Wonderful. With all the "where's Waldo" shots of the kettle moving around I wanted to see it by the river's edge with fishing pole sticking out of it, "fishing."
Mac looks right at home in the wilderness. Great pics!
Nice to see you didn't cover it up ... After all, it's just a little water. 8) ;)

Maybe it would have actually caught something :)

My kind of vacation. Beautiful pics, country, cooks, kettle!
I once drove Rt 93 from Craters of the Moon to Missoula, not too far away.
(Btw, thanks for omitting the bedroom scene pics) :o
Awesome photo essay, my friend.
beautiful country up there!
Awesome photos Ida, and the location looks unreal.
And really, how can you blame the bear?? One smell of that kettle-licious food and I'd come a runnin' too 8)
Great Pictures, beautiful scenery and love the Redhead!
How cool. What a fun trip.
I liked
@addicted-to-smoke comments about "Where's Waldo" for little red. Those were the words I couldn't find!
Thanks for the cool pics!
Love all the photos! Looks like a great time. My two favorites, wilderness and kettles. I especially love this photo... Kettle with knotty pine (my favorite wood) in the background.

Incredible photos, just awesome!
Just GREAT shots Ida. Looked like the PERFECT getaway.
Great photos! What a great place to have a BBQ.
Idahawk - great photos! I love the cowboy beans cooked in the can - a true campers method of cooking.
When I went to college in Moscow, we used to do a "Bovill run" - a stop at every little bar in bovill, clarkia, fernwood, harvard, etc. Basically a circle around your location. Some of the most amazing country in the lower 48.
Thanks for sharing.
