Title: Weber Performer - broken gas starter
Post by: mo on May 27, 2015, 04:06:38 PM
I have a 2005 Crate & Barrel Weber Performer with a gas starter.  The gas starter needs to be replaced - it has become stripped.  I cannot find the serial number?  Is the starter something that is easy to replace if I order a new one?

@mo  what is stripped? Is it the button?  I don't have the # of hand but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help.

Thanks for the reply.  It is the button that you turn the gas on with.

Are you just talking about the knob?

If so, see this thread for the cheapest fix:

Indy has it! What Mo means is the knob you turn the gas on with. Over time the plastic can become stripped and won't engage the valve's shaft.

What's spooky is that the only 3 people who have thus far complained of this with their post-2004 Performers have ALL had Crate & Barrel, Grass Green Performers.

Coincidence? I think not.

Go to Home Depot. Jack it from their floor model.

According to ereplacementparts.com that regulator assembly is no longer available.

I'd recommend keeping an eye out for a suitable replacement knob from a stereo or something or just glue it on.

That page also lists the black lid as obsolete ... but yeah there's no need for anyone to hunt down a regulator just to get the plastic knob.

If its just the knob for the regulator that stripped out, I think I'd be fixing that with a squirt of gorilla glue before I considered replacing anything.

If you do end up replacing it, I'll take that old one that is stripped out.  I need an extra regulator and hose assembly for a project. :)
