I rescued this three wheel 18" last weekend for $10. Looks like from around 1976. Just needs a good cleaning and the handle needs to be stripped and re-stained. For some reason the handle was painted grey. 8)

looks to be in great shape, nice score for sure!
Great score. Gotta love the old metal handle 18's..
I have one like that and love it!
Just curious, but what leads you to believe this grill is specifically from 1976?
Great find, and at a great price too!
I can't make it out but the lid vent will tell the tale.
Oh and sweet black mbh!
Faded black, not grey 8)
It was a good year! I able to drink legally!

Got one too, was my dad's. Probably has the same gangster lean from a worn front leg.

From the Age Guide here I was under the impression the mid-'70s were a "best guess" era for age. What do we look for?
Style of ash pan, wheels sometimes, tabs on the vents.....Craig's the "Keeper of the Whisper" on this stuff..... 8)

The wheels make it look 1976, but a closeup of the lid vent will help even more.
Here you go.

According to the vent chart I got from MartyG 1976-1977.

i thought at one point we determined 77 was the first year with the modern wheel.
@Craig (also, that vent poster is out of date. new one coming soon)
My parents bought a house in '75; not sure if they had the kettle earlier.

Those modern wheels were definitely in place by 1977. But they have been seen paired with BAR B Q-KETTLE vents. Weber started switching over to those wheels between late 75 and early 76.
The lid vent from the OP is a '76-'77 kettle. Pretty sweet!
