The charcoal storage box on my SS performer is only used to keep gloves, wood chunks and ashes & pine needles that find their way in. The charcoal likes to live in the garage.
I think there has to be a better way to utilize that space!

I beat the edge of a SS pan flat so it will fit into the charcoal storage box without falling in. The plastic around the top of the coal box had to be trimmed a little so the pan will go in.

Now I can haul all the extra junk I need to the grill outside, from the kitchen, in one trip. The beers already in the garage so I dont need to bring it out.
That's cool! I always thought that the charcoal would get wet. Did it get wet when you used it as a charcoal holder?
I didn't notice wetness the time I kept char there.
A spot to put a carry tote. Like it. Mine's wasted space there. It's inherently awkward to scoop charcoal up and out, no matter the scoop IMO.
I see you keep the 50 cal bottle opener handy. Definitely a grilling essential
I like it! You could still use the charcoal box as a cooler, just fill with ice and voila!
That is nice work!
My coal bin is where I keep my chimney and my modular baskets (the baskets that I took apart to use in different configurations).

I never kept charcoal in there. My gloves and whateverelse is in it stays dry from the hose spraying or rain, but they'll mold if left there to long. Almost nothing will mold in my garage so the coal lives there.
That's a cool mod. You can still store your gloves etc under the SS pan.
I will say that I keep my coal there. It is handy having it close. It scoops fine with an ice scoop.
In humid and rainy Seattle winters I have had no issues with moisture or mold.
Great idea HFG! Another plus for the mighty SS 8)
