Title: Does new 26" coking grate fit old 26ers?
Post by: austin87 on April 20, 2015, 10:14:44 AM
I know the charcoal grate is a different size but trying to figure out if something like this will fit the 1973-74 red MBH 26er I picked up.

nope.
that's the current grate from Weber.

It won't sit on the welds and it won't be stable.

Is it a larger or smaller size than the original?

If i remember right the old grates were bigger and thicker? The new ones are smaller and thinner.

the new grates are bigger in diameter (and thicker steel)

the old grates are smaller in diameter, as they sit lower in the bowl.

They're cheap here.....

http://hardwareonlinestore.com/hardware/featured/grill-cook-grid-26-gm-detail

but the shipping puts it right back up there....Shipment Fee $21.48

almost worth getting two or more of them & they are a bit smaller & fit....
