I went and ordered the small vortex(fits the 18 and 22 sized kettles). I've been holding out for financial reasons, but I watched a vid or two too many tonight and sprung for one. youtube+kettleitis==damn it, I'm broke!
I got several in the mail a few days ago. Review and giveaway coming soon ;)

A request:
When you do that, can you compare it to something else also designed to "focus" or corral the heat such as using two char baskets set together, noting the amount of coals used for each etc?
Let us know what you think of the small one. I want to order one but I don't know if I should go with the small one or the middle sized one.

Yup. I plan to head to head compare with baskets. I may start a planning thread to gather testing ideas

I have the medium Vortex. Works great for the 22" kettle.
I'm curious about the vortex. I look forward to seeing some reviews.
I would like to see some reviews as well thank you
Vortex is on my short list. Looking forward to the review.
The Vortex is an excellent addition to a kettle! Very versatile and stingy on fuel use. With kids coming and going at different times, I like to light briqs inside the Vortex and grill skewers as needed. Briqs last a long time in it. Never checked time, but thinking a couple hours or so.

surf and turf skewers....love it! I could see me eating a ton of those(marinated w/teriyaki and brushed w/sambal oelek).

Indeed, marinated both steak and shrimp. Veggies available also. Skewer em up and they cook fast. Good fast food via The Vortex. If you have people coming and going at diff times, this has been really handy for me. And having a hot grill area available for a couple hours sure comes in handy.
the surf is obviously shrimp, but I'm curious what the turf is.
