Title: Mid 1960's Fleetwood....

~steel wheels with hubs
~thumbscrews
~ "U" notch ash pan with clips

Can really see the "spin" marks on the lid. :)

That's awesome! The spin marks give the 26r's so much character imo - those are deep and really cool looking!

might just be my monitor but it doesn't look quite as squared off as most flattops?

its because its not a flat top, the earliest 26 grills are closer to the shape of a modern 26

That is quite possibly the most beautiful (to me anyways) grill that I have ever seen. Can we get a shot of the vent?

I took a double take at first thinking it might be a 22 simply because of the shape - very cool!

Cool!  Do we think that the U pans switched to twist pans at the same time for all the sizes?

Actually they didn't. The 18 and 22s switched to twist style at the tail end of the metal lid handle era (about 1963). The 26"ers retained the U pans through the end of the thumbscrew era (1968  )..
