Sorry for all the posts but it's been a good few weeks in the kettle department! She still needs a little work (handles, sweep and wheels) but otherwise is coming together nicely. Does anyone have any tips on how to remove the original rusted out sweep system?

A dremel or grinder will make quick work of that rusted out ash sweeper.

I've even drilled down into where the thumbscrew is broken off like his & both sides of the handle popped right out......easier to cut one or both sides right next to the hex.....if one, then use a centerpunch to tap what's left out the other side.............
Nice Kettle......Class of 1990............. 8)
GORGEOUS BLUE!!! :o
:)
That looks great!
I removed an old ash sweeper with my 4' grinder. Just be careful you don't touch the bowl. Everything pretty much falls apart once you get rid of the sweeper handle.

Cheers for the pointers, the Dremel worked flawlessly!
I love it when a plan comes together! ;D
Nice job.
Nice Six, my Dremel has been a lifesaver more than once!
