Title: The Mighty Performer - (Pictures)
Post by: SixZeroFour on May 18, 2014, 01:50:04 PM
Like many others here I am a big fan of the Performer so I figured why not start a photo thread. Feel free to post up a shot of your setup...

Last week I got lucky and snagged this wonderful EZ Blue. It was really dirty and the ash sweep was toast but has come back to life with a vengeance thanks to a deep clean and a few new parts. I think she looks great next to to her C&B swapped twin! Now I just need a black ash catcher for the blue to finish things off!

Think there is any chance of convincing my wife to let me track down a red as well??  ;)  I won't push my luck just yet...

Those are really awesome looking Performers!

I see that you put a new 7444 One Touch Cleaning System on the blue one. I also notice that it still has the old style ash catcher on it.  How were you able to make these two work together?  I was under the impression that only the 7409 One Touch would work with that ash catcher.   Did you have to do any modifications to make it work?

I had pre-purchased the kit thinking it was going to fit but quickly realized my mistake. Hoping to make it work I tried not using the large bottom washer and instead used the similar thickness cross bar of the old ring support to make up the difference. It's not perfect as the metal slider handle does not twist and snap/lock into place like it normally would against the washer. It still slides side to side and sweeps the ash just fine but the handle can be twisted/spun as its not "locked". Sorry I hope that makes sense... otherwise it went together ok and seems to work fine. I will do it again on future restores if originals are not available.

Yeah it's one of those M/N code Grey kettles. Legend has it that it was owned by the Stephens family but that claim has not been verified.

I'm not sure of anything. Nor can I tell much about color shades from Internet pictures, especially the greens. Come to think of it, when I initially posted the picture last year I probably called it lime green; at the time no one said anything about Crate & Barrel. But I don't know what Performer colors were available in '05.

Another thing to love about the performer is all the mysterious goods you find at the bottom of the charcoal bin!

Ole' Blue came with a cool old recipe booklet copyrighted 1979 (31pages) as well as the original owners manual and owners guide:

My performer putting in some work this past weekend. I had 17.5 hours of cook time into those two pork shoulders.

Pic from when it was brand new about a month ago. I have lots of cooks on it now and it doesn't look quite as pretty. :)

Helped a neighbor on a blue DR performer that is a bit dirty and needs an igniter kit but the finish is very nice.

I am probably going to get a lot of flack for this comment.

I have owned 3 performers, 2 Green 07 models and an 02 Blue SS.

While I like them just like I like most kettles, for my preference, if I had one kettle to choose from them all give me a master-touch.  I simply don't have the space for all the kettles, three legged grills work best for me due to being compact and portability.

lol, but just think with a Performer you would no longer have the need for a chimney, it won't (shouldn't?) fall over AND has table space and a bin to keep your charcoal dry!   ;)

Performers are where it's at for me. Even though I lack space, I still need the table. If I didn't have a Performer, I would be setting up a table to use with a regular Weber. And that is what prompted the build of my double barrelled table.

Now that I have three Performers, my cooking style has been streamlined. I have plenty of room to work wether I'm using one, two or all Performers. And they have proved a bit more versatile than my double Barrell.

And God bless the gas assist!

Nice looking green Ron!

Did you already order the replacement weber logo for your SS?

Depending on how picky you are I have one that's been painted all black that your welcome to have... if you got creative you could prob even strip or repaint or whatever... let me know!

Ron, I really like the rustic "edge of the desert" thing....reminds me of eastern Nevada where the family is from.....

And it appears Greg is revisiting his "Green Period" kinda like Picasso.....

Brickout, night & day, man !!!!

And then MIKEY !!!!

glad you now have room to stretch out ......... 8)
