After "sitting" on this grill for 5 months I finally decided to put it together. This grill was purchased by the seller's uncle for the seller's grandfather as a gift (along with a NIB work table). The grandfather passed away shortly after receiving the gifts (he never got a chance to open the boxes). The gifts sat in the uncle's basement unused for 40 years. Last December the uncle decided to downsize and sell the items.
This is the first time I assembled the grill. I may place it back in the box (not sure)... :)

Love to see these grills still in this condition.
You keeping this one Harris?
Beautiful.
You really need to put that back in the box. Then put that box in another box. Slide a shipping label on it and send it to me.
That is stunning.
Speechless, took my breath away. Not a lot can top that. Thanks for sharing.

Harris - I'm not trying to be a dick, but I'm curious how you pinned this grill as a 1973?
The wide vent tabs on the bowl is why I'm asking.
That's a thing of beauty. I feel bad for her, though. All those years of neglect, never getting to do the one thing she's always dreamt of. Let 'er cook! ;-)

So cool
The seller and I were going by the time frame of his grandfather's birthday and passing (birth date - late 1973 and passing - early 1974).

Ah, that makes sense. So this lid vent is engraved with the BBQ lettering then? There seems to be a period where the bowl sports wide turn tabs and the lid is still engraved before they switched to the elongated B stamping.
I'm just trying to learn this shit as we go along. :)
Yes it is . Here is a pic of the lid vent. Thanks

My God that's beautiful!
It's not often I'd advocate keeping one just to look at but that one belongs in a museum. Does Weber HQ have stuff that nice?
Amazing!!!!!

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think a mint kettle as this should be collected, or sold for a nice amount to someone who does collect them. There just aren't enough mint condition ones out there. If you're not a collector, the proceeds from the sale could pay for a cooker-grade unit that you could have fun using and not feel guilty!

I own one official looker. A 1972-73 red SJ... I also own a brown PAT PENDING 18.5 that's in contention to remain on "looker" status..
