I finally got around to doing a mod to correct this issue. It's not a perfect fix, but should do the job.
I did not want the outer part to potentially spin and damage the handle over time.
I drilled two holes, 1½" from centre.
The initial hole was with a 9/64" bit, then 5/32", and finished with 11/64" bit.
I decided to use a nail. Cut it down to a little nub.
As was expected, the nail head creates a gap.
It truly pained me to carve a small recess into the solid oak handles supplied by Brian.
Hopefully I won't have to do this again.
I used a Dremel to do the carving, and smoothing.
Looks good, now!
