I bought a shit kettle from interstate purely for the tatter ring. But I have since heard that they aren't real good for corn. How do you guys use them?

You got that at a VERY nice price! You don't want to know what I ended up paying for one  ::)

If it makes you feel better, I probably blew through $20 worth of gas driving there and back.

Daymn Hatch, that's awesome.  But I don't recall seeing that CL ad in my PM box...  lol

Sorry, I was on a mission to get this one. The grill is still available. Lol.

Nope, still not feeling better. you'd need to make a few more round trips  ;)

Jocool, it's always worked like a charm for me.  I just dump about 3/4 of a chimney of coals into a pile right into the middle of the kettle, then fill the ring with corn (it's too crowded to put a full ear of corn in each slot, though you can alternate with potatoes or beets or whatever).  The thing works like a charm, putting indirect heat on all sides of the corn-- no need to turn the ears or the lid or anything.  It usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes for optimal doneness.

Duke taught me a sweet trick too:  the corn-n-tator ring makes a great stacker.  Put it on top of a regular grate, and then put an 18.5 grate on top of the corn-n-tator ring, and you've got double-decker cooking.

You can fill them up.....

....hey !!! Somebody swiped one!!!

In doing this, if the ears are a bit long, you kinda have to scrunch down gently on the lid....
I've also used the skewer ring to jump the height, or a roto ring would work also.....

Tried both coals in a pile in the center & a thin ring around the edge of the grate & either works fine....the thinner ring works better if you want to let them toast gently while doing other things......

    Covered, damper-controlled cooking.....IF YOU PLEASE !!!
