Make your own Weber rotisserie for $30.00
You will need
1 Old Weber
1 Universal rotisserie kit, home center about $30.00
1 Thermometer for the lid about $6 at the home center. You will not know your cook temperature without this.

1. Drill 2 5/16 holes, one inch below lower kettle rim, in the center of the kettle parallel to the wheels.
2. Run spit rod through holes, mount motor bracket on left side. Bracket will have to be shimmed out do to curvature of kettle.
Do not attach bracket without shims for this will add heat transfer to the bracket and motor.
3. I sawed off the non-point end of the skewer rod so only a few inches protrude when in use.

Rotated this Turkey on New Years day. Five hours on the grill, one hour in the oven due to low light conditions outside. This is the best Turkey I have ever had, in one word, spectacular! Twenty one pounds of gastric delite.

How hard was it to get the bird on and off the rod, since you have to feed the rod through the holes? It seems like it would be a little difficult or easier with two people.

I put the turkey on the skewer rod in the Kitchen. I carried it out to the grill and put the skewer into the holes right to left. one person, no help.
Thanks,
E

I like it!
I looked through your pics and I am intrigued. Is your spit to fire grate distance adequate?

I have an N code 3 wheeler with no legs or cooking grate. Hmmm. ;)

Nice work! Is that piece near the pointed end of the spit rod a bushing? Does it support where the rod goes through the kettle? On the motor side does the motor support the spit or does it ride on the hole in the kettle?
kettles, smokers...

Yes, spit to fire grate distance is adequate. Is your turkey larger then 21 pounds?

Hello,
Did my first one 2 months ago, turned out better then I ever expected. I can tell you that you will not have any regrets other then the time you wasted waiting to do it.
Any questions?
Have a great day,
E

The rod goes into the motor on the left side. The bushing keeps the rod from walking out the right side.
