Which Grill Do I Give Away?

I've decided to pass along some Weber love to my oldest daughter who recently moved out and is going to college.

I asked her if she would like a grill at her place and if she would like to learn how to cook on it and she said yes.

So the question is, which one would you give her for her first grill?

An 18.5" OTS or a 22.5" OTS?

She has three room mates and I suspect she will be doing mostly burgers and dogs to start off.

I have enough extras to set her up with a chimney and grilling tools and a bag of charcoal.

That's a pretty nice thing to do. An 18.5 kettle is a great "cut your teeth on" kind of cooker and more often then not, it's really all I need for cooking real estate (did I just say that out loud with all the cookers I have!?  :o  Don't let my wife read this......)

I would base my decision upon how much space is available. make sure you get her signed up here and "the other board(s)" so she can do research/ask questions while learning.

Give her one of everything so all her friends and room mates know her dad is a kettle head!
Dare ya...
If it's a weber, I can't pass on it. That's my sickness! I hope I am never cured.

The 18 is a perfect starter grill.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Yes, definitely the 18.5". You don't want her bringing home some guy, who will just take over her 22" and make a smoker out of it.

This is really ironic, Chad just told me he was going to give me his 22" Simpson's OTG today!   :P

I can actually speak on this from experience... this past August I gave my daughter a 18.5" for her final year of law school. She has sent me a photo of her cooking something on it EVERY weekend since then.  If not for the grill, who knows if I'd ever hear from her, lol.

The 18.5" may be more manageable for casual cooking and less weight to lift for the lid. My vote is to give her that for ease of use.

Regardless of which grill you give her, please tell her to join here and share some of her cooks. We can help make her a Wisegal. I bet she and her friends would get a kick out of it. :D

Personally, I would say a 22 OTS. I just think a 22 is more forgiving for heat control, but maybe it is just me... :o
