I had a chance to cleanup and assemble my newly acquired Red MT today. It was a beautiful fall day in the Chicagoland area...

The lid needed the most work, especially the vent

Here is the lid all cleaned up

The vent shined up nice!

And the bowl shined up

Assembled pics

Overall it's in great shape. The lid rim is kinda beat up in spots but the bowl is in fantastic shape. The lid and bowl are slightly out of round so takes a little to get it shut completely. Does anyone know if this is fixable or if maybe after a few cooks it will settle back into place? Overall I am pretty happy with it for my first red!

Gonna have to hug your Weber! That's the only way to really get it back into round. Just be careful to not squeeze too hard. Great cleanup on the MT!
Not everyone deserves to know the real you. Let them criticize who they think you are.

That's a good looking red head. Nice work on the cleanup.

Gunnar-
Great clean up.  That grill looks fantastic.   I think a RED M-T may become my next 'grail'...

Does anybody know if all Red MTs would have had the dark lid-rim like Gunnar's?
Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.

Great job! You have motivated me to clean up some of mine!
If it's a weber, I can't pass on it. That's my sickness! I hope I am never cured.

Craig

That's a pretty redhead MT you got there! Cook on it and rededicate it! What's the first meal going to be?

gunner

Thanks guys! I cooked on it last night and made some roadside chicken. It gets dark around here around 5 now so they are all night shots but I will post them anyways! It was fun to cook on it for the first time...  ;)
