baskets or not?
« on: November 06, 2013, 11:26:21 PM »
hiya all, just wondering how many use coal baskets?  i have found some expanded metal in my mates shed, its getting chucked so am thinking of making a basket or two with it.

but, would i use them or would they simply sit inside, then get moved around while i cook then sit inside again till the next cook?

cant see the point in making them if they are just going to be for show, so s'pose my question is, do you use them on a regular basis or just for the odd occasion??

thanks
ray.

I need a red head in my life, and a roti ring.

Yes, I use the all the time! They are great for direct grilling when you aren't filling the kettle. They concentrate the fire to make that portion hot. They also help to manage left over charcoal to make cleanup super easy. You can use the baskets for putting the fire at the perimeter for indirect- You can even fill the portion outside of the basket to keep an area of the kettle clear from heat. Lots of options here!

I use them all the time, more often than not really. Easy cleanup, easy to move around if needed.

I on the other hand rarely use them.  Only one way to find out of you will, Ray!

I use the baskets on ever cook.  Since April I only ever tried once with no baskets and don't like it as it just made a ton more work for me on clean up.  The baskets work great for me.

Baskets are great!  At first I didn't use them, as I was new to cooking on the Weber kettle.
Then I saw pics and such with people using them. I decided to give it a try.

Hang on to that expanded metal. Here is a thread of mine where I fabricated some stuff with EM.

Baskets and rails are the bomb. It's only rarely that I don't use them.
