18.5 wsm score

checked craigslist saturday morning.  sent email and guy called me right back.  He said he has gotten a few responses but no commitments so I asked if it was "first here with cash gets it or if he would sell to me if I say Im on my way."  I tell him I can be there in an hour.  I make it in 45. 

I think its a score.  Wife was a little pissed until I told her it was a smoker.  I think Im winning her over with the collection so long as I dont spend too much and keep churning out the good stuff.

$40 for a WSM can safely be considered a score, I think.  I would have picked that up w/out hesitation.

That's an incredible deal!  Nice work.  It's a great smoker, too-- your wife will love you for it.  And you can tell her that I paid twice that for mine.

When I saw that I knew I had to act fast. Now I have to clean this thing. The guy told me that he has had it for 5 years and it looks like he has never cleaned it. There were sections on the bottom grate that had grown together from grease/carbon build up. The main body section is coated with the same carbon seasoning. If this were all my mess I might not bother but I have an issue with tasting another mans flavors. 

I picked up some industrial Easy-off, 2 plastic scraper trowels, and 0000 steel wool. Gonna get to work this weekend.

I'm ready to make some killer ribs and make the wife forget about the kettle-crowded patio space.

Now I have to hold out for a blue master touch or a Simpsons 22. Or an old 26'r. Or a legless tabbed kettle to drop into seville. Or a .... Or a ... Or.... ahh crap.

There is no date code on top vent. Where should I be looking?

I've got an older 18" with a wood handle, no vent code. I read that its a production error, and other than knowing when it was purchased, good luck with the date.
