I'm still new here, and just figured out how to post pics so I decided to show off my Cado. I look forward to learning as much as possible from you guys!

She is beautiful!

Nice to see a PAT PENDING can still be had for ten bucks rather than ten hundred bucks.

Nice score! Still the cados elude me :(

Good to see you picked it up very cheap too.

I was surprised by the condition. Apparently I'm the third owner, the guy whom I bought it from said he could no longer cook on it?? what ever that means... After taking a shop vac to the inside to get out the leftover coals and crud I'm still not sure what he meant by that. The original owner apparently told him that webers had thick enamel and could be left outside, so he followed suit. All four dampers move freely. I've already ordered Craycorts. but it will most likely be awhile before she's cooked on so I placed it in my storage unit for the time being.

Wow nice score! She is a beaut!
Wanted: 18" Platinum any color will work
This is my Kettle there are many like it but this one is mine......

I do have a quick question, for the rust spots, what the best approach, after carefully taking those areas down to bare metal?

For me, I hit everything with steel wool and/or SOS pads including the rust spots.  After that, it's just cooking oil on the rust to help slow it down.  It's like a scar --- chicks dig scars.  lol  GREAT find and congrats on scoring one most of us dream about.  :D
I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

What Bman said! Please don't paint it, the spots give it character. I just use SOS pads and then 0000 steel wool and they turn out good enough. Takes most of the rust off.

Thanks BMAN and landgraftj! I'd never repaint it. My question was for preservation to prevent further damage. I have total respect towards all things vintage in that regard heck I have a storage unit filled to the brim with original Mid Century items.

Welcome and what a great score! That's a beauty! I use clear high temp on the rust spots on mine. After cleaning of course but cooking oil works great too. Hello from Nashville!

Welcome to the WKC and a beautiful grill you picked up!  :)   Like Landgraftj says the 'Cados elude me too.  :-\  I call the spots freckles on the redhead grills, or beauty marks on the other  colors. I also like the patina look on the whitewall metal wheels. If you want to maintain that look, I've sprayed a set with Rustoleum UV protection clear coat after they received a good bath. It maintains the look with out them having a chance to rust or deteriorate further. If you want a brand new look, Brian (zavod44) sells whitewall tape which is also awesome.  ;)

Nice score and welcome. Do as above mentioned. I had wheels like yours and hit them with a household product, Whink Rust Remover. Have a bowl of water ready to neutralize. I use at home all the time, as we have mineral content from our well. They look like this know,

In addition to all good ideas above, believe it or not WD-40 can do a number restoring wheels  with minimal "danger".

Spray WD-40 in 0000 steel wool and shine up the top vent. Worked wonders on my 69' 22 Cado.

I would sand, stain and seal the handle also.

Shit.... I get it now.

Cado is short for AVOCADO,  right?

If it breathes, we can cook it!
