Wow guys, thanks for the outpouring of advice and support!

So I've been very busy since my my last post. Let me get everyone caught up.

So I ground off all the rust and coated everything in navel jelly. Here's everything all cleaned up.

Some parts carnage.

Ash pan before...

Ash pan restore in progress...

I came up with an ingenious way to clean up the axle. I chucked it up in a drill, then clamped the drill in a vice. Turned on the drill and hit the axle first with a file to knock most of the rust off. Then various grits of sand paper, then steel wool.

Finally I coated it in gloss clear.

Here are some shots of the ash ring support cleaned up and coated in rust neutralizer.

Leg support tabs re-welded, they may not be pretty but they'll hold.

looks like it is coming along nicely!

Frame and other parts cleaned up and coated in rust neutralizer.

Then everything was coated in rust reformer primer.

Some of the parts required a little block sanding and glazing putty.

Those parts then got a coat of sandable primer.

All of those parts were wet sanded and the finally...PAINT!

Brickout sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. It's really sad when these are left in such disrepair. I mean this is about the worst one I have ever seen. I am so glad it's going to be brought back to it's former glory. It really warms my heart to see you restoring that classic smoked red performer. Please keep posting the progress.

Some more parts cleaned up and ready for reassembly.

All new stainless hardware and new wheels.

New cooking grate.

Some new OEM Weber parts

A little custom touch to the Weber badge.

Here are all the primers and paints I used.

Almost completely assembled.

More tomorrow!

Not everyone deserves to know the real you. Let them criticize who they think you are.
