Nice thread, this got me thinking....making a kettle all murdered out.  Brian's ebony wood handles.  Black ash bucket and ring. Flat Black legs. Black one touch handle. Black walls on the wheels. Hmmmmm.  This could be my next project.   8)

I have a question for the refurb guys. Want to remove the wheels to do something to the triangle (not sure exactly what yet) how can I remove them without destroying the caps?

Best I've come up with is vise grips with a shop rag buffering the clamps from the hub.....spend a minute setting it carefully so it's just barely enough..............

Other people have probably done this more often.....where are they?
"If you want it fancy there is BBQ spray paint at home depot for that. "
    Covered, damper-controlled cooking.....IF YOU PLEASE !!!

Invest in spares from weber.

Heyjude

You can buy the caps at most hardware stores. If you are careful, you can pry off the old caps.  8)
I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

This has me thinking. I have an 18 gold that I want to gift to my mate at his house warming. But he stands over 6"4 in height. The poor bastard wiuld have to stoop down to use the sucker. So I might use a triangle from a 22 and make up some longer legs. And then pimp out the bucket and maybe go for some flash 10 onch wheels.

A Hot Rod 18! ;)

As far as the caps go, I pry them off using a claw hammer and work around slowly. And in Oz we can get them for nix from weber CS if I do manage to stuff some up.

Or chop the legs and put in on a counter height patio table. :D

You can lever them off with two screwdrivers and then bend the metal tabs back with needle nose pliers but I just put new ones on
There cheap as.....in fact there free from weber
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Hey folks,
I am done with my mods to my OTG. Here's my write up complete with pics.
Before:

Primer stage:

Triangle hanging to dry

There are some photos that I had to skip due to a freak thunder shower yesterday afternoon. I had to do a lot of running and cussing no time for pics of some things.
Black bucket

Ash catcher

The finished project

I chose to paint the cheap factory handles rather than go wood for now. I couldn't convince the boss I needed handles for a new grill that I bought 4 days ago. But I do have a performer...

I, for one, think its sweet. Adidas made soccer gear that resembled that color combo two years ago (the yellow was closer to chartreuse), and it was really popular. I say go for broke and paint the thermo bezel yellow too. Lol

This kind of thing is not my bag, but THAT is so very well done.   BRAVO!
