I'm going to say that ain't the case.  Here's another comment by the OP after people said there's still a lot of life left in the ol girl.

Seems like it would be pretty easy to get that MT back to "normal".  Sort of a ladybug paint job.

I received a hot tip on a curb side red kettle last night
So I drove over and couldn't believe someone had thrown out a red MT. Sure it was missing some parts , handles, ash can, thermometer but it was shining in the moon light
I had a closer look this morning and whoa it's ugly. Not sure what happened to the lid but I'm gonna need a big arse thermometer to hide this beauty spot

I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers
