Fire bricks vs slow n sear

I'm looking to start smoking soon, and was thinking about getting two firebricks to create a divider. However, I heard it's less efficient than the slow n sear because the coals are touching the kettle. Does anyone know how much better a slow n sear is? Thanks

Hey... I have tried a bunch of ways to smoke on the kettle.

The cheapest is snake method

The fire bricks work pretty decent.  I have had no issues with banking coals since it's not high heat ( you do loose cooking space on the  side u bank )

Slow n sear works great and easy to use but like the fire bricks, you loose almost half of the cooking space.

I ended up grabbing the new weber heat controller and love it.  IT makes even heat and pretty much 100% cooking space.  It is also the most expensive.  But when you pair this with a temp controller it's effortless smoking

I have many SNS for my grills, I prefer a snake for low and slow, I use the Aura kettle zone so no loss of real estate.

I use the Webber-supplied baskets & the Cajun Bandit ring.
It works great for me. I can do offset (coals on one side only) & Snake (for long & slow & smoking)

I use and recommend the Slow n Sear paired with a Drip n Griddle (both from SNS Grills).  I don't care for the snake method - most say low heat doesn't bother the porcelain but I'm not chancing crazing on my vintage and modern kettles of color.  You have the option of adding water to the trough in the SNS which can help hold temps down and keeps a nice barrier between the fire and the food.  I also wrap my DNG in foil which makes cleanup an absolute breeze.
