Is there such a thing or are these size references used indiscriminately? Did Weber change from a 22 1/2” to a 22”? If so, when?

I’ve been looking at the Weber brand rotisserie ring for my 22 1/2” “Late 1979” “A” code kettle and it got me thinking about a post on TVWBB by a member there who was apparently having a difficult time getting the correct size roti ring from Weber, indicating that he had ordered one directly from Weber and it didn’t fit, in his estimation, it was about 1/2” too small. He returned it to Weber and received another roti ring and it, too, didn’t fit. He described it as not resting on the lip of the kettle, all the way around.

I’ve seen a number of grates and roti rings described as 22” or 22 1/2”. If at all possible, I’d like to save myself the time and annoyance by getting the proper size(d) parts and accessories for my kettle the first time around.

Usually anything labeled as 22" and Weber = 22.5.  The Weber 22" has always measured 22.5" and just called/labeled a 22" for shorthand.  A 22" grate made in the 60's will fit a modern 22" grill and vise-versa, same for rotisseries, accessories, etc.  The 26" has been made in a couple of different sizes, but that's another story....

I am 99.99% sure the circumference of the kettle has always been 22.5" and grates are 21.5".  That said, rotisserie models over the years have changed.  Mine is an older Weber that doesn't seal very well, but works fine since I never do low and slow using it.  It's since been redesigned for a better seal and cutouts for the lid bail nuts.  I've heard great things about the OnlyFire stainless steel model.  Either should work well for you.

Thanks much AS in SA and bamakettles for sharing your insight. That certainly puts my mind at a little more ease. I’ve also read generally positive reviews of the OnlyFire roti ring. I hope, whenever I do decide to splurge for a charcoal roti, I’ll only cry once. I do have a 2008 Weber Genesis E-310 and have the Weber roti for it and it works like a charm.
