1993 Redhead with black metal tools
« on: August 22, 2021, 09:57:50 AM »
Just picked up this bargain from eBay.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Large-60cm-Diameter-Weber-Barbecue-many-extrras-/194286606490

Really happy because it’s in really good condition and will clean up nicely. The mark on the side will scrape off. The lid is almost mint condition.

Also, I knew I was getting some original Weber items. I could see a pair of tongs, a glove and a pinny/apron.

What I didn’t realise was that the black metal tools were original Weber items as well. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like them before.

Also does anyone know what the rack is?

I’ve managed to find details on the rack, but nothing on the tools. I assume the previous owner bought them at the same time as the grill, so making them 30 years old, but can’t find any images or details about the tools.

I have a Weber catalog from ‘85 or ‘86 and there is a picture of the tools, cool find! Can’t upload pictures at the moment otherwise I would upload the page.

Quite by chance I’ve found a set for sale on eBay, the packaging date is 1989.

What size is this Redhead?

It’s 57cm and not 60cm as listed.

It’s an early example of the OTG with the ash pan held in place with the bar. The bar looks to be in good condition but the sweeper will need replacing. Fortunately I have a new one that has been waiting for this day.

Overall the grill is in excellent condition, the lid is almost mint. The handles need some TLC. There is a mark on the side that should scrape off. The only damage is a bent handle on the side, which has removed some porcelain, but that’s about it. I carefully bent the handle back into position yesterday, or nearly back into position as much as I dare.

I was very lucky. I don’t think the grill was listed very well, and the accessories alone were worth the price paid. When I got the grill home I realised I had a beauty.

More pictures to come.

I decided to straighten the handle a bit more. I found that rather than placing a block inside the handle as many have suggested, I had more success pulling a chair up alongside and applying the clamp.

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Ash pan bar looking good for another 20 years after a bath in Evaporust. The sweepers are gone, but luckily I have spares.

I have a set of those tongs gifted to me by another member. I haven't seen any more information about them though.
