Just added a wood handle (thanks Brian!) to my SJP, aka: "Dr. Joe" as the date code is DR. Posed it on my picnic table to make it feel at home. (BTW - that's a Norm Abram design I built years ago - great table.) Planning to put this into service at a local swimming hole/picnic ground next time I'm back home.

Love the beautiful black colored Joe Platinum.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Very nice, what kind of wood is that handle?

MartyG

That one is Koa. Brian made me a rosewood handle from an antique marimba key that is even more beautiful if that's possible. I have that one on the Performer now.

I love everything about that post Marty.  Nice.

Did you do anything special to ensure the etchings were as dark as they are on th ekoa handle?

MartyG

Brain should weigh in on that. He's the Master. I did not touch it other than to screw it on.

The Koa just burns dark.  I have color filled handles in the past....

I have never seen your colored ones. I think red or blue would be interesting.

MartyG

I don't think he's talking about colored handles, only the in-fill for the logo. Although there's nothing stopping someone from staining a handle whatever color they like.

Here's the Rosewood handle on my (dirty) Performer. It shows how little darkening effect the laser has on this type of wood - unlike the Koa.

And a little closer to show how the laser is doing it's thing:
