Make sure the leg is as round as possible. The round end of a box wrench or appropriately sized socket helps fix the round opening.
Squirt a smal amount of silicone lube on the leg end. Use a rubber mallet and some gentle but firm persuasion. I would not twist. The friction indentation on the leg socket is what holds the leg in tight. Twisting is somewhat counterproductive.
