X Home 8835 Cast Iron
« on: May 19, 2021, 04:45:23 AM »
Just found this on Ebay...a good looking cast iron grill grate.

https://www.amazon.com/Home-Charcoal-Performer-Gourmet-Cast-Iron/dp/B0895YLQV1#customerReviews

Anyone here tried this? The reviews on Amazon are very good.

I like cast iron on my gassers, never tried one over charcoal.  I’d spend money on a Plancha first.

The YouTube reviews, along with the Amazon reviews are very positive with charcoal.

Ok...that makes sense. These are not expensive at all, running around $50. Looking at the Craycort models also.

I have a set of craycorts for my 26 and it is a great product with the 4 removable sections and the different options available for the sections. I still would recommend them.

Craycort is about $90, and $15 shipping. I wonder if they are worth twice the price of the others posted here? These are around $50 with free shipping.

I don’t have experience with the other brands you posted, but I have the Craycorts in the 18”, 22”, and go-anywhere sizes and I love them.  The stainless OEM grates in my 26’er are still going strong otherwise I’d purchase a set in a heartbeat. The extra $5 for the 22” enameled version would be my choice.   As JEBIV mentioned these CI grates do take a bit more maintenance, but not too bad with regular use.  The enameling would eliminate much of that requirement.  Let us know which way you go!

Still looking at options. We have the Weber GBS with the cast iron skillet/griddle, and the enameled searing grate. The searing grate is nice, but only has room for two decent sized steaks. As I cook for just me and my wife 96% of the time, no big deal. But if grilling steaks for 4 or more people, this is not a good option.

The plated steel grates on the GBS are not bad at all, and I can get nice grill marks with them.

I'd rather get a Killa Grilla stainless steel grate.  If you want sear marks, you'll get em; and quality stainless is almost zero maintenance, won't degrade and rust like plated grates & will outlast your grill.
