"Meat" The Family!
« on: May 15, 2021, 04:18:33 AM »
Just finished up a major resto-clean up of my Happy Hooker Weber Cooker. It is all original, except for new grates. 1979 vintage!
Decided to get some good family photos with it.

It took about two full days to get the Happy Cooker cleaned up...and I gave up after 90% of the burnt on carbon was removed from the bowl and lid. Used a razor blade, sandpaper, steel wool, putty knife, and oven cleaner. My hands / thumbs got worn out! That 1979 enamel is nearly indestructible! It did not scratch from my cleaning efforts.

There was a metal ring that inserted into the bowl, and then would hold the lid up in a vertical resting position. I wonder if the metal lid holder from a new Weber would fit?

My weekly go-to grill is the Happy Cooker. The Jumbo Joe and the other Weber Kettle are still new.

Thanks for all the kind words!
I had previously painted the lid on the Happy Cooker, with multiple layers of High Temp Grill Paint. It actually looked Ok that way. But looks much better now. The 1979 Kettle is still in good shape.

Should have taken better care of it! The Cooker spent time outside in the elements, during winter...not a good decision.

It took a lot of scrubbing and scraping to get the paint off, even using a good chemical stripper. The Stripper worked good with the Happy Hooker Weber Cooker!

Bought it at Sears, and this was the less expensive of the two kettle cookers they had. I think the upscale version had a better external ash catcher, but not sure.
