Gen 2 Weber Performer Frame
« on: May 12, 2021, 05:25:54 AM »
Does anyone on here know of tubing I could use to make a sleeve by the casters for a gen 2 performer? I just picked this one up. I am going to give it a good cleaning, and would like to fix the bottom at the same time.

I can't say for sure that they're not the same tubing, but considering that the caster design is different between Gen 2 and Gen 3, I'd guess that the tubing is also different.

Gen 2 and 3 frames are the same besides color from what I have seen.

Might be able to cut it off clean just below the basket frame and use a taller caster.

Not a bad plan
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

What’s wrong with the tube? Bent or rusted out at the caster?

Rusted to the point that the ends are frayed.

I had that same problem with a Gen 2 I had about 15 years ago - seems to be a more common problem in the Gen 2 than Gen 3 and other Performers (which is one of the reasons Gen 2 is my least favorite design).

It’ll take some Creativity to get a tubing match that the caster fits snugly in and won’t rust away in the future.  I wasn’t able to get a solid, permanent fix, despite the many hours I tried......so when we sold the house I left the grill for the new owner.

Well I'm going to take it apart it again to clean it really good, but I was so excited to put it together to prove it would work I did. Only thing is I put the bottom upside down so the bin doesn't go in. I will fix that during deep clean. I think she'll end up being a damn good grill. Thanks for the help everyone. Will send pics when I clean her up.
