After using my kettle for the first time last night, I noticed that the Tuck-Away feature is lightly scratching the finish. Is it faulty, am I using it wrong, or is this completely normal?

Normal wear,  though I've seen some use heat shrink wrap on their lid bales to provide some protection.

Hi,
I would say not normal.
Over the time you will get some tiny scratches there but I just checked my lid bails and for all lids it's impossible to touch this small cam.
So something is different.
I have only 63058 lid bales in use ("old version")

Thanks for the replies so far gents. I have reached out to Weber, but I think I'll duct tape it until I hear from them.

I did think it was odd that the lid should be able to touch it at all!

Maybe double check to make sure it is assembled correctly.  I installed a larger lid bale on a couple of mine and realized that I put the tabs backward.  Maybe you can share a side shot?

I'll go and grab one now!

I don't know if they help?

Appears to be correctly installed, looking at my red LE which is identical.  Maybe a strip of electrical tape on the inside of the piece going up?  Might melt though..... Maybe move the lid in and out very slow and see if there's a high spot rubbing it.  A small piece of tape could make a big difference.

I photographed the point at which it touches in my first post. I don't mind taping temporarily, but I should be able to open/close the lid of an expensive kettle without fear of scratching it to death!

Thank you for your insight

looks to be installed correctly, I honestly have not paid any attention to my newer master touches to see if they hit
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Stoneage

I use a couple of short pieces of reinforced tubing.

Lowbrass

Could you cut a small strip of high heat gasket with the adhesive on back to pad the section?

That's exactly the point!
It should work out of the box.
Scratching the lid is pretty sure not the intention of Weber engineers. :-)

I have a old L code one touch plus that scratches easily.  When I use it, I just drape an old cotton shop rag over the metal bale, especially in the middle.
